Default Is BB UK really on its last legs?

I have seen a lot of people here talking about how this is probably the last season, how nobody likes the show anymore. Is this true, or have people been talking like this for years?

I have watched the US version of BB for years and enjoyed it a lot. This is my first season watching the UK version. The UK version is far superior.

As far as I know, shows like this are very cheap to produce. Also, it runs in the summer when there's not much else on, so it's not like they can put on other shows 7 days a week that will bring in just as much revenue.

Are there other reasons they'd cancel it? That would be a shame. They should start showing the UK version in the US, I think many people would enjoy it more than our tard version.

The desperation and stupidity of the producers continues to harm the program.

And you're right, the US version is an abomination.

If they cancel the show, ill make sure the new childs play film (which im the star off), is about picking the producers off one by one. It will be like Dead Set, but with killer dolls. Mohahahahaha

I wouldnt like to see it end, but they dont really advertise it like they used to and I think they get so many complaints about things or the police being called in for one thing or another they might think that its more hassle than its worth, and apparently the viewing figures have dropped but I dont know where they get their figures from because there are lots of forums about and lots of people on them, so who knows...

Unfortunately the ratings are dwindling - this year's series is down around a million viewers on last year's. Cheap to producer or not, that's still one hell of a drop for what was once the most talked about programme in the UK.

The first US series of Big Brother was based on the original Big Brother format, but it was because it flopped that the current gameplay-oriented format was brought in.

like any reality show, its always goes to be more popular at the beginning.

i think bb should do something extreme to make the show a little different. it sticks too much to the same format...and doesnt always take advantage of situations in the house to make them even better

Yes the UK version is the best. If you've loved this season then you would love past season 5, 6 and 7. Im loving this years BB.

There was a long article in the Guardian today about the end of Big Brother.
It mentioned amongst other things how the tabloids have ignored this year.

American people have no patience with their TV. They switch off if there isn't a "suspenseful" rock guitar soundtrack in the background of everything telling them how to feel. They switch off if there isn't a complete recap of everything that's happened before the adverts. They switch off if the people aren't hot enough. They switch off if it's boring or if the plot takes a long time to develop.

BB UK rewards patience and interest in small details.

Yes. Im enjoying it but it isn't what it used to be. I hope next year is the last one so it can go out on somewhat of a high. to go out on this one would be a joke

Eventually I can see Sky taking over the show (whether in 2 years of 10 years) and we'll get 1 series as we know it then it will change to USA format

Still, I remember hearing some very bad things about the first US Big Brother. Apparently they were all shallow airheads who did nothing but talk about sex (not actually do it) and moan at eachother.

No - if they put a competitive element in they could easily rescurrect it and keep it relevant!

lack of imaginations ruins!

without a live in reality show we are all missing out...

BB has a duty to evolve!

Ha, before watching BB UK I never noticed how annoying the constant background music was in the US version.

I don't disagree with the introduction of more relevant challenges, but BB USA is a glorified college athletics competition.

I like "head****" challenges and comedy challenges of BB UK. The BB6 "box task" was both comic to watch and an interesting experiment. How long could you stay in a box? How many times did the double entendre of "Saskia's box is huge" give a guilty chuckle?

I was also really interested by Mikey last year and how the other competitors dealt with his blindness, his willingness to participate in just about any task, and their own apparent fears that his mere presence could cause them to fail.

The problem is that by BB9 the tasks had largely become a parody of the fame engine of BB itself (for example the Michael Jackson "Thriller" task). By BB10 all BB does is split the housemates according to plotlines into little groups and get them to perform little song and dance routines that further caricature their personas. How contrived was the Greek task this week? Just about the worst thing I've seen.

(I do love the unintentional visual gag synchronicity of some of the costume pieces, though. BB5 had a military task that was really funny. Ahmed, a fortysomething muslim who looked like a stern Arab military colonel in uniform, broke down in tears over a cup of tea. It was visually very incongruous and very funny.)

This is the sort of thing I want to see. If I wanted to watch sport (I enjoy taking the summer off from watching sport except for World Cup etc.) I would.
