Default Are Charity singles completely selfless?

Do you think all the stars involved are wholeheartedly with the cause or do they like the idea of being seen as a saint and to create the persona of 'the good star'?

A bit of both but there's also the benefit of promotion especially if this Haiti single makes an impact in America. I'd say most of the agendas behind it are that of good will though.

Why can't they just dig deep into their own pockets without forceing us to listen to this drivel.
I'm surprised Bono hasn't jumped on the bandwagon.

Some of them are digging into their pockets as well. However making a single or an albulm for the benefit of Haiti will raise a hell of a lot of money because a lot of the public want to buy into it.

I always thought that really, instead of making a big song and dance about it and murdering a great song, they should just give the money. We're all aware of what has gone on and celebs singing if not going to change our minds if we decide to donate or not.

It's called publicity. I imagine Jay-Z donating money in private to Haiti would inspire less people to do the same as him donating in public.

As for the topic question, no doubt it's a mixture. Many people donate to charity and it's not selfless, even if they don't realise it. You may genuinly have the best intentions when you drop a pound in a beggars cup but it's also giving yourself a pat on the back and telling you what a great dude you are.

Publicity purposes. Don't look any further. A few may be concerned by what's happening (George Clooney for example)

Madam Carey could pay for the whole of Haiti to be re built and still have a good few quid in the bank.
The public can still donate without buying the CD.It's not like no one knows it's happened.

Of course they can. But many more will, and HAVE donated as a result of putting on a concert full of celebrities urging them to do so.

I think some of them actually do it for the charity but in my opinion most of them take part just for publicity!

Yeah but most of the public would rather have something back. Most people would rather say spend a tenner on the albulm rather than just give a tenner away, or however much it will be.

Does that not say something about the person if they 'want something back' for giving in the first place?

Some celebrties may want the publicity etc.. but who cares, as long as they are raising money then that is all the matters. I know.. some celebrities could give a lot more.. the public could give a lot more but still millions of pounds has already been made. Celebrities want to still keep millions in their bank because they are used to their lifestyle and the joe average public.. well some could give more but it is wise to save money for yourself because of the recession and well it is good to have a safety net.

Oh I think there was a thread about it earlier.. but erm.. I am not convinced. Anyway like I said the average Joe public want to save money for themselves and if they have families, to support those too. Charity starts at home for most people but yeah you should pat yourself on the back if you contribute a bit.

It depends who they are. I'd like to think TT are doing it just to be nice, cos they're on a holiday atm anyways,so they're not even meant to be working. And I doubt Gary climbed up a mountain just for publicity.

I think some celebs want to do something different, such as contribute in some kind of down to earth charitable event, which is a change to most of the celebrities busy schedules.

Not really, as I said, if people are going to give they would do it regardless of what charity singles come out. Singers have a lot less influence than they used to, especially when the single is mixed with reality tv show winners and stars. Also SuBo tinges the whole thing too.
