Fair play to her.

She sold about 200,000 less than Shayne did in the same time period though.

Well Shayne did appeal to more people. I'm sure the majority of Shayne's sales were from teenage girls/women. I can't really see as much young girls who would buy a Shayne single buy a Leona single.

The viewing audience has hardly changed over a year. She's a winner of the same show, roughly the same amount of votes were cast and she won by 60%.

It doesn't matter who she appeals to, she won, but clearly people aren't as interested in her as they were Shayne. Or, perhaps, it's the song.

It could be a number of things. But I don't think you can put it down to who she (and who she doesn't) appeal to.

I know boring isn't it.

I wonder how many of the CD received as presents this morning will be played once and forgotten.

Buying the single is one thing but if all these people rush out and buy the album then we shall see how big her fan base is. I think people like buying the christmas #1 whatever it is and sadly even if the MacDonald brothers had won people would still buy it as it would be christmas #1 and the xfactor winner.

You are so right. What happened to the integrity of the british record buying public.

I can remember when being number one at christmas was momentous. But now it all manufactured and becomes predictable. Where have all the good xmas songs gone. You cant beat the classic tunes like slade, mud etc...... I cant even remember the last christmas song.... there all normal everyday tunes.... whats christmasy about Leona??? Or Shayne Ward - That's My Goal

Of course we had 2004: Do They Know It's Christmas -Band Aid 20 but that was a remake and I hate covers...... even if they are for a good cause!

I agree. The X Factor has taken away all the excitement of the Christmas Number One.

It's a dead cert now that whoever wins the show will top the charts.

The last good race we had for Xmaz #1 was in 2003 with Gary Jules & The Darkness. Since then it's been predictable and boring.

Nobody even seriously dared to challenge TXF winner this year. If they did, they'd fall flat on their face.

It's a shame, like you said, Kiz, because none of these are memorable Xmaz songs.

To be honest i still think Leona deserves to be number 1, it's not like she hasn't earned it.

She's worked hard, yes i agree, but the whole thing with the x-factor is that its worked so that the winner song will be released just in time for christmas. Thats something I dont agree with at all...... manufactured to fit in beautifully....
