After visiting the land of song for the national eisteddfod, world famous poet, Benjamin zephenia suggested we adopt an eisteddfod in England, I like the idea
A national poetry music choirs song writing , writng competition for all.....regardless of education , wealth, background or education this is what they've had in wales for centuries...and the public love it over250,000 turn up every year. Its the biggest cultural festival in Europe. There are 3 eisteddfods...since living in mid wales...ive been to a few and I have to admit the Llangollen eisteddfod reduced me to tears....to see nations represented from all over the world in this magnificent setting singing, writing, reading, sharing, dancing , playing , ..even when you get off the wonderful steam train youre greeted with childrens choirs and brass bands....Im telling you there is no where on earth more beautiful than Llangollen We could have one in England for the adults and 1 for the children and an international one Surely we in England NEED such an opportunity to be creative....THIS is the key to so called multi culturalism, bonds of culture and friends, to build on our shared values and interests and celebrate our differences too.. as terry waite espoused when praising the eisteddfod Lets not be too proud to steal a welsh idea, especially as its a great one yes we have endless fantastic festivals across England, the best in the world...The hay festival on the welsh borders is another I have enjoyed... But this type of festival brings in all the schools , the kids, the families and is 1 crucial piece missing from our cultural puzzle....where our culure still is often still too elitist imo and not inclusive enough..such a celebration could even bring in the other british languages, gaelic, ole English, cornis, welsh , irish etc etc .in the land which gave the world the greatest writers of the written word, we need to encourage the artists of future generations Last edited by the truth; 23-08-2015 at 03:12 PM. |
