This morning's wake up call was kinder than most and should have left the housemates bright eyed and bushy tailed.

But while the Chas 'n' Dave number (Rabbit, Rabbit...) played into the bedroom faded out, some housemates were overcome by their fear of spiders - more specifically, pregnant ones.

As the Eighties cheese blasted into the bedroom complete with flickering lights, the housemates - by now used to being woken to screaming babies, pneumatic drills and other horrors - were decidedly joyful.

Michelle ran outdoors and skipped around the garden, while flop-topped Stuart began to bounce manically on his bed. In their adjacent pens, the Jungle Cats nodded their head in time to the music, while Shell leapt from under her duvet and jumped on the spot for the duration of the tune.

"That was an amazing way to get up!" cried Stu as he flopped back down on his mattress.

"How good was it to hear that?" asked Jason rhetorically.

"That alarm has put me in such a good mood," agreed Daniel.


But the cheer was short-lived, as all heads turned towards Shell who'd started screaming blue murder - much like the crying child the housemates were forced to spend over half an hour listening to yesterday morning.

"A SPIDER!" she howled, clinging onto Michelle and pointing at the offending creature scuttling over the clothes piled on her bed.

"It's got a SACK of BABIES!" she yelled.

As Victor bravely marched over to the voluptuous arachnid, the other housemates begged him not to kill it.

It didn't take long for him to catch the eight-legged beast, after which both he and Stuart dutifully carried her and her sack out to the garden and set them down in a corner.
