Default Kids are told \"Have sex to stay healthy\"

CHILDREN as young as 14 are being told having sex every day is as important as eating fruit and veg.

The NHS health leaflet, called Pleasure, tells school pupils “an orgasm a day keeps the doctor away” and they “have the right to” a good sex life.

It is being circulated to parents, teachers and youth workers to pass on to youngsters.

The leaflet’s creators say advice has focused too much on safe sex when it should concentrate on enjoyment.

It advises: “Health promotion experts advocate five portions of fruit and veg a day and 30 minutes’ physical activity three times a week. What about sex or masturbation twice a week?”

Co-author Steve Slack, head of the Centre for HIV and Sexual Health at NHS Sheffield, said the advice actually encouraged youngsters to delay sex.

He believes that if they are informed about the enjoyment of sex they will put off doing it until they are sure they will like it.

Michele Elliott, from the charity Kidscape, said it was important that teens learnt about sex, but they should not be encouraged to do it.

She insisted: “Young people under 16 should not be having sex.

“We know they do, but we should not encourage it.”
