Default Best Film Score Ever

Not talking about song compilations here; I mean original musical compositions for film. Tell me your favourites because I love them.

I like the Lord of The Rings score; Jurassic Park; Jaws; King Kong (2005). Probably missing a few. What are yours Setanta?

And I'm also trying to think about the perfect all round score rather than a great track, you know what I mean?

The score for the Fellowship of the Ring is spectacular. And Jaws is a masterpiece although I prefer the score to Jaws 2, as mad as that may seem.

That's why I love the sequel music- it still has the well known and timeless themes but builds on the natural mystery and fearsome nature of the seas. You can feel John Williams being a little more free and spontaneous with his arrangements. Kinda like what happened with The Empire Strikes Back.

Thats a good score actually.

Have you listened to the king kong score? Its just so calming yet aggressive at the same time. Here are snippets of it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuznG8P2EFY

How do you embed the video onto the page like you did up there? ^^

Yes love James Newton Howards work and that score chokes me up every time. Check out Unbreakable for him too and I believe he worked on Dark Knight with Hans Zimmer which I think is a wonderful score.

I was just going to mention The Dark Knight; that didnt get Oscar nominated for best score for no reason. That was brilliant.

Oh, and cheers.

I know this goes against what I was talking about but this is up with Star Wars as the greatest music to open a film with. So good. Bernard Herrmanns last score too.

Thats a great find Setanta. What I love about this is its haunting and yet soothing. He uses the dramatic to start it off to set the mood, but then adds in the soft saxophone to capture the essence of the city; New York. Wow I completely forgot about how great that score is.

Its amazing and to think it was his last.... he died straight after watching the rough cut. Think he knew his job was done. When you think of what that man did in film and to come up with a score like that at the end of his stay here....unbelievable.

I like the American Beauty one as well; very subtle noises and soft piano playing.

I love that track and absolutely adore Thomas Newman but when I hear American Beauty I only think of this track.

Trying to think of soundtracks that nobody would go for or that are entirely underrated. This isn't my fav track off this film but it's the most recognisable.

Such a beautiful, wistful melody that evokes everything that Brokeback Mountain attempted to portray. Fits perfectly into that world.

I think Dances With Wolves is one of the great soundtracks. John Barry's music can be very samey, but on this occassion he just came up with some many great themes.....5 or 6 of them. This particular one is only used once in the entire film which really proves how good the rest of the score is.

Probably, Jaws (1975) and Psycho (1960).
