Default Gordon Brown resigns.....
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has announced that the Labour party is to hold a leadership contest, which he will not participate in.

Mr Brown also announced that the Liberal Democrats had requested "formal talks" with Labour over a deal to form the next UK government.
