A few days ago The Daily Star had "Jodie On Suicide Watch" splashed across its pages. With Jodie's own fans admitting evicting her because of the bullying, I'm wondering how much this very strongly worded headline increased the number of people evicting her in the belief that is was for her own personal safety.
Of course Jodie wasn't on suicide watch. She made an innocent remark which was taken completely out of context. With everyone being watched 24 hours a day technically theyre ALL on suicide watch. And if anyone in that house is being monitored more than the others its more likely to be Michael Barrymore. If those who read the Daily Star can admit this particular headline influenced their decision to get Jodie out, then what does this say for the Daily Star's credibility which is constantly used as a source for gossip and stories on this site? |

I dont think one paper can have such power, if you look at all the anti barrymore/george stuff that has been in the papers george should of went imo. Alot of the press/radio were on Jodies side to stay from what i saw.

I think ppl can make up their own mind about someone and not get influenced by the papers who believes the papers anyway I certainly don't

Was it enough to sway the vote we will never know. But what I do know for certain is the Daily Star does have an influence on its readership from my own conversations I've had with people who read it religiously. |

I think if ppl are influenced by a news paper then maybe it says what sort of ppl they really are

I think people, especially the younger viewers, can be very easily influenced by the media, and Big Brother is mainly a younger audience.
I never like competitions with public votes anyway, I don't believe the votes are ever counted properly and campaigns and/or tricks are always used (i.e Free Beer phone 0xxxx xxx xxx - "Thanks for evicting Chantelle") Are these votes ever checked by regulators? It's like those quizzes all over TV now, they don't have to give out the solutions, so how do we know they don't change the answer as they go along? Never liked these kinds of votes, because sometimes they don't match public opinion, and anyway, if BB want someone to stay in, they change the rules. |

Unfortunately, people are influenced by the press - even the Star, as shocking as that may be! Yes, I think some people may have voted Jodie out because they felt sorry for her and thought that she would be happier out of the house. In fact, she probably will be happier now that she's out.

Who cares if a minority tabloid influenced a tiny handful of its readership? She would've gone anyway, and the house is a better place without her around, too. The demographic most likely to vote for BB evictions are also the ones least likely to buy or read daily newspapers. They get their fix of the news that appeals to them from other glossier, more colourful or interactive sources, in the main. And if the UK press (both tabloid and broadsheet) had such an influence as some suggest, we'd never have had any Labour governments. Pretty much all of them support the tories on their election day front pages. That varied a little for the last election or two, but in the main, pretty much every newspaper other than the Mirror plasters tory propaganda everywhere at such times. She left because the vast majority of the audience have a strong dislike for her. End of story.

I think if everyone believed everything that was in the papers then everyone would go around hating everyone and take barrymoore for example there was alot of ppl that read the papers but still gave him support ppl are not giving him the same support now because of what they saw with their own eyes and the same goes for jodie they voted her out for the same reason because of what they saw not by a stupid news paper that tells great big porkies anyway and really has proved my point as did we see jodie trying to kill herself no we did not did we also hear from her mouth "I want to kill myself so i'm going to slit my wrists now" NO we did not its all complete rubbish.

Totally agree sparkle, if people voted her out based on that headline they are more stupid than imagined.

thx it really makes me angry that ppl blame other things when you have a mind of your own.If someone told you to jump of a bridge you wouldn't do it as you have a "mind of your own", so why believe gossip in a news paper at the end of the day they are only there to make money and how do they make money by selling "stories" and thats what most of them are "stories".
