He was good in the silly comedies, like School of Rock which I liked. But, just like with Jim Carey, it's wearing thin. Couldn't take him seriously in The Holiday with Kate Winslet. But I'm still unsure if we were supposed to.

I don't like him in interviews, I think he tries too hard to be funny and fails. However I do like him in films.

I dread to think what Gulliver's Travels is like... he's good in roles written with him in mind, but I can't take him seriously otherwise.

The only movie with him in that I've seen and enjoyed is Tenacious D. He's otherwise very irritating.

Don't be comparing him to Jim Carey either. Carey rocked in Evan Almighty and Truman Show and showed his versatility as an actor. He is very good at soppy scenes as well as daft comedy. And he had a brilliant run on Saturday Night Live. A proper talented guy a few people happen to find irritating.

Jim Carrey's a brilliant actor, I don't know why people box him in this comedy-only actor, he's fantastic in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the Truman Show, I Love You Philip Morris etc...

I never really got the fuss about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.. tried to watch it but just couldn't get into it at all.. the whole point of the film was his memory about his Ex girlfriend being erased under some shockingly fake system

And all of his 'comedy' roles are just OTT (Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty, The Mask, Grinch, Truman Show to some extent). Just him prancing around like a 9 year old. People may find that funny which is fine but it's not a talent. |

Of course it's a talent you goon. You should have left it as 'people may find that funny which is fine'. The man is good at what he does. I don't like Hugh Grant. Hate chick flicks. But Hugh Grant is quite clearly very good at what he does. You hate what he does. That's cool too. But he does it well. |

Does anybody even like Jack Black?
Actually, he was okay in Orange County. Livened up an otherwise shit movie.

If Jim Carrey is talented, then it is a very limited talent. The difference between his and Robin Williams' transition to 'serious' roles are night and day. Carrey lacks any of the latter's dimension or gravitas. With physical comedy which is supposedly what he does best, he is a lesser Jerry Lewis... and I don't even like Jerry Lewis.

I think Jack Black is okay. Not as good as Jim Carrey though. He is not really versatile enough. I want to see him play more parts than just "the funny man".

I don't know how people can call gurning and jumping around shouting like a 9 year old a talent. Jim Carey has some talent in acting (Truman Show 'normal' scenes) but his 'physical comedy' anyone can do.

![]() No they can't. Seriously, it's what he does and it's a style he has perfected. I wouldn't dare compare him to Robin Williams either as BB_Eye has said but his gurning, somewhat unsettling physical outbursts are very good. Could anyone do Sly Stallones stuff? Just inject Demerol into your arse for 20 years and develop a poor guido accent. How about Jennifer Aniston? Just act like the frustrated, somewhat bubbly mid life crisis girl. How about a million other actors we could sit here all day spotlighting about how other people could, in theory, do what they do? A thousand other men could have kicked the German terrorists arses in Die Hard. But it worked because Bruce Willis was doing it. It's not just 'can you do this'. It's your look, your aura, your overall package. Arnie can't act for squat but Arnie's the man. Why? Because he is Arnie. Jim Carey, likewise, is Jim Carey. |

He's like America's version of James Corden.
