Default Repackaging an album

Is this kind of a new trend of something? Well the ones I've noticed are Ellie Goulding and Pixie Lott. They have seemed to have done the exact same thing. Half arsed rebrand of their new album and a few new songs, then try get it to America. Pixie went first and I don't think it went well Now Ellie has gone for America. I like them but it seems a stupid strategy. They've only just got famous here then they try go for America. So the same old songs are floating about for months on end over here then eventually drop and the artist fails.

it does seem a bit naive - I can't remember the last UK popstar to make it over there. Bands have, but popstars...

Michael Buble did it too. And Taylor Swift I think. Seems like a massive '****** You' to the people who bought the original album when it came out.

Adele and Paulo Nutini are doing quite well over there I think.

Other than that, not many British solo singers do well in USA for more than a couple of singles.

they aren't really popstars though - I guess I should be more specific and say electronic / bubblegum pop stars. Didn't work for Robbie Williams, probably won't work for Cheryl Cole...

whereas Adele and Paolo Nutini are more...well, talented for starters, but singer-songwriters that can merge genres.

No ..... It was common practice in the music industry prior to 1967 for British releases to be reconfigured for the American market. In some cases, the US version would feature a different track listing, cover, and sometimes even title from its UK counterpart. The first five Rolling Stones albums were converted into eight LPs for American consumption, adding material from non-album singles and the UK EPs, and adding the concert documentary Got Live If You Want It!. The two Big Hits singles packages, respectively from 1966 and 1969, differ in each nation, and in the case of December's Children (And Everybody's) and Flowers, there are no UK counterparts.

I think the last was Leona, and Alexandra & JLS are soon to attempt it. But they've got Simon Cowell behind them. I doubt any would manage if it wasn't for him

Good point.

I suppose it's because USA is saturated with their own Popstars so the need for ours is minimal. Besides, most of ours don't last long here anyway. The only reason Cheryl Cole has maintained a music career a little longer is due to X factor. Now it will dwindle down the pan, like it should have years ago.

JLS were piping on about working with Ne-Yo or whatever he's called. Still can't see them doing well over there. Think they're over the urban boyband thing, plus they're so generic.

And it does really seem they get a bit of taste of same over here then get too big for their boots. And then they try get their fans over here to cheer them on for their "American Dream" or whatever Ego's much

yeah, she and Mumford seem to be breaking through over there at the moment. Most bands tend to take an extra 2 years to breakthrough across the pond
