The chairman of the IOC’s co-ordination commission for the London Games, Denis Oswald, has revealed that he has major concerns about the ability of the captial's antiquated public transport system. He is unsure how it will cope with up to 3,000,000 extra journeys every day.
“People should be aware that it will take a long time to get to their competition and they should leave two or three hours before they might otherwise think they need to in order to get there in time,” the former Olympic rower and president of the International Rowing Federation told The Times
Further, plans to shuttle 30,000 people daily to Eton Dorney, where the rowing and flat-water canoeing will take place from 9.30am in the morning, have caused Oswald to fret about the reliability of public transport, as the train network has the capacity to deliver only 6,000 people an hour.
Additionally, as it stands there will be no spectator parking, apart from a limited number of disabled badge-holders.
