Ex-News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks is due in court later accused of three charges of conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

Her husband, Charlie Brooks, and four former colleagues face one charge each of the offence and will also appear at Westminster Magistrates Court.

Mrs Brooks, 44, was charged last month by detectives from Operation Weeting, Scotland Yard's phone-hacking inquiry.

The offences, which she denies, allegedly occurred in July last year.

Mrs Brooks is accused of conspiring to conceal documents, computers and electronic equipment from police and conspiring to remove seven boxes of material from the archive of News International.

That month, David Cameron ordered an inquiry into press standards, the News of the World was closed down and Mrs Brooks resigned from News International.

Charlie Brooks - a 49-year-old writer and racehorse trainer - is also due in court, along with Mrs Brooks' former personal assistant, Cheryl Carter; her ex-chauffeur and two security officials.

They appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court on charges linked to the phone hacking scandal.

Mrs Brooks, 44, who faces three charges of conspiring to pervert the course of justice, was bailed until 22 June.

Her husband Mr Brooks, 49, and four former colleagues, who each face one charge of the same offence, were bailed to the same date to appear at Southwark Crown Court.

She faces three charges of conspiring to pervert the course of justice, while Mr Brooks is charged with one count of the same offence.

Four others also appeared at the court on the same charge.

Mrs Brooks's former personal assistant Cheryl Carter, 48, of Mildmay Road, Chelmsford, Essex; head of security at News International Mark Hanna, 49, of Glynswood Road, Buckingham, Buckinghamshire; Mrs Brooks' chauffeur Paul Edwards, 47, of Victoria Park Square, Bethnal Green, east London; and security consultant Daryl Jorsling, 39, of Vale Road, Aldershot, Hampshire, all face a single charge of conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

The defendants will be asked what they will plead at a hearing at the same court on 26 September.

All six were bailed.

Rebekah Brooks will be prosecuted for conspiring to intercept voicemails.

The CPS said the charges related to 600 alleged victims between 2000 and 2006.

Mrs Brooks said a charge relating to murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler's voicemail was "particularly upsetting".

This was because it was "untrue but also because I have spent my journalistic career campaigning for victims of crime", Mrs Brooks said in a statement.

The former News International chief executive - facing three charges relating to allegedly accessing the phone of Milly and former Fire Brigades Union boss Andrew Gilchrist - denied authorising or being aware of phone hacking "under my editorship".

She already also faces three charges of perverting the course of justice arising from the investigation into phone hacking - charges she has denied.

I'm no defender of What Rebeckah Brookes did, but i do think she is being scapegoated because she is a woman. Why is the woman the main target of these investigations and the tabloids focus???

Former News International boss Rebekah Brooks has been formally charged over phone hacking, Scotland Yard has said.

Mrs Brooks answered bail at Lewisham police station and will appear before Westminster magistrates on 3 September.

Last week it was announced that Mrs Brooks and six other former News of the World journalists would be charged with conspiring to intercept communications.

The others charged, including ex-Number 10 press director Andy Coulson, will appear in court on 16 August.

Mr Coulson was communications chief under David Cameron.

The seven stand accused of conspiring to intercept voicemails between October 2000 and August 2006.

Mrs Brooks, 44, of Churchill, Oxford, and Mr Coulson face specific charges relating to the voicemail of murdered Surrey schoolgirl Milly Dowler.

The other former NoW staff who have been formally charged are ex-managing editor Stuart Kuttner, former news editor Greg Miskiw, former head of news Ian Edmondson, ex-chief reporter Neville Thurlbeck and former reporter James Weatherup.

The charge of conspiring to intercept communications without lawful authority carries a sentence of up to two years in prison or a fine.

Mrs Brooks already faces three counts of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, linked to the investigation into phone hacking.

She and five others, including her racehorse trainer husband Charlie Brooks, who faces one count of the same offence, are due to appear at Southwark Crown Court on 26 September.

Former News International boss Rebekah Brooks has appeared in court to face charges related to alleged phone hacking.

Mrs Brooks, 44, appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court earlier, accused of an alleged conspiracy to illegally access voicemails.

She faces a general charge, and two other specific charges linked to murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler and former union boss Andrew Gilchrist.

Mrs Brooks denies the charges.

Prosecutors claim the general charge could affect more than 600 victims.

Seven other reporters and editors from the now-defunct News of the World have already appeared to face similar charges, including former Downing Street press director Andy Coulson.

Those charged appeared in court earlier this month and are next due to appear at Southwark Crown Court on 26 September.

During Monday's brief hearing, the former News International chief executive, wearing a dark jacket and skirt, was told she would also appear at the court on that date with the others accused.

Mrs Brooks, from Churchill, Oxfordshire, spoke to confirm her address and date of birth.

There was a large media presence outside court. However, she did not speak to journalists.
