is the uk the fat man of Europe ? 18.02.13
roll up roll up, i am going to spend my salary, junk beyond junk, everything on offer gives me a wrong calorie. all the tasty food, its discounted beyond belief, are the the supermarkets robbing, our life's they thief. the good foods are expensive, this for sure will stitch, it is discrimination, healthy food is only available to the rich. even in causality's its on offer, that might be strange, the place that will face "obesity", only provides the wrong snack range. a third of all 9 year old's, the weighing machine wont fool, is it from the "canteen", or the "take a-ways" that surround the school. now a tax on fizzy drinks, but will this put it to bed, will it be as successful as the " cigarette ", all helped by the new 9pm watershed. i put the facts down, will we end up like the USA and be obese, i suppose that's inevitable, because in-front of every shop we can not have the police. ( this was on today's news this very morning. i can not help but think if the government cared that much - they would bring down the price of fresh healthy food and this could be paid for by the rise or tax put on all junk food which is going to cost the government millions in heart surgery - bigger ambulance - more education and every other problem that goes from being over weight. what i want to no is - is there a easy way to deal with this crisis ?) |

End up like the USA? yur already like us, just a few years behind like always. Stop acting like we are so much fatter than you. The UK is not just the fat man of Europe, yu are one of the fat men of the WOrld, already. And other European/Western countries are also the fat men of the world. Germany is in the same boat. Australia is in the same boat. Canada is in the same boat. You guys need to stop pretending the USA is this stand out obese nation, when actually yur exactly the same and have been for over 20 years. Let's be real.

http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Obesity...roduction.aspx
''A survey published in 2012 found that just over a quarter of all adults (26%) in England are obese'' http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/adult.html ''More than one-third of U.S. adults (35.7%) are obese.'' Considering you can fit the UK into the US several times over i'm not sure how comparable it is, I agree we are screaming towards an obesity epedemic. The government are sending out some strange mixed signals here... First we have the olympics that was sponsored by two giants in the world of sugar laden rubbish, the ad's, logos and merchandise were everywhere never mind subliminal advertising, this was hardcore mind control. Now whats happening? the ad man and the supermarkets working together to promote these goods have done the job they are paid to do, get millions of people buying these products. What is Mr Camerons answer to this threat? ....tax it..... Yeah...cheers for that dave!

We may not be the Fat Man of Europe right now but considering how obese our younger generation are then it's only a matter of time before we take that crown......

i think we should stop focusing on just how people look, and start focusing on how people live. It's not just about how people look, it's about how our culture is. we need to create a culture that encourages more active life styles.
Shaming fat people because it's not sexy is never going to work. You need to create enviornments that people will be more active. I know everyone hates cyclists, but actually we should be encouraging cyclists, and we should create environments for people to be engaging in out door activities. The cities are a scary place now, and we need to make them less scary, we need to make more public places for people to be outside. More places for sports and recreation.

Hi Joe
When my sister in Japan visited London some years ago, I asked her what was her first impressions of London. I was quite shocked what she said, she was surprised so many people were overweight! Eat less, more exercise - (easy to say?) Eat healthy foods - Mothers responsibility? Government responsibility? I do not know..
