Gina Rio in fishy race debate
socialite Gina Rio was at the centre of a new race storm yesterday.
Charlie Travers, 27, said she looked like Angelina Jolie’s Disney character in the film Shark Tale.

The actress, 38, voiced a fish called Lola.

But Charlie admitted she wanted to say that Gina, 24, was “a black version” of the character, yet did not want to cause a race row.

Charlie said: “I did not want to say black.”

But when Dexter Koh, 28, claimed Gina was “mixed race”, she hit the roof saying: “I am black! It’s the right word to say.”

You can understand Charlie's reluctance to say "black" after the whole Jemima thing.You never know with Gina how she might try and twist it.Even though saying black is not racist.

Even when she thinks about the effect something might have before she says it and stops herself she still manages to slip up afterwards!

To be perfectly honest i was under the same impression as Dexter regarding Gina's racial heritage. She does look very different without her blue contacts and half-inch thick make-up layer mind you!

He should though. There is a difference between black and mixed race. How can someone be considered Black when half their family isn't? lol. Dunno, Maybe it's just me, but when I have to answer what my ethnicity is I put "Mixed".

I have always been known as half caste, because of my origins and skin colour.

This is the old school description, and everyone knew what it meant.

I don't see what the problem is with all these different terms that people insist on using. Most folk are so involved in crawling up their own arse to be correct, that they haven't a clue what they are talking about.
