Default Reality TV Discussion

For my media assigment I am studying Reality Televsion and I was just interested to hear your views on it. I need to propose an in depth essay as to discuss how real reality tv is?
Does the editing and input of producers make it very unrealstic and the presense of the cameras turn people into exaggerated versions of themselves. Or is is real because it is actually real people, just put into a very manufactured situation?
Ive got some interesting points onj it and was just wondering on your opinions.
If anyone has any articles they have found on the internet they think would be useful for me, I would be really grateful if you could tell me where they are.
Thanks!

There was a really large piece of study/survey done by the University of Wales last year and this year (poss 2000 as well) on the UK Big Brother.

Here is one article relating to it: www.thelistener.co.uk/hi/english/education/newsid_2052000/2052066.stm+Big+brother+-+Aberystwyth+study&hl=en&ie=UTF-8]BIG BROTHER IS A WOMAN[/url]

and HERE is the big brother questionnaire they used this year.

And, for some interesting Reality TV articles, here is a search

I did for you!

Good luck!

Thanks for that guys I will look through all of this tonight.
It is actually an interesting topic to be studying, something I actually enjoy. There is a lot of information on Reality tv and a lot of different view points so I wont mind getting stuck into this essay - seeing as my main text to study is Big Brother!

Classic!

Why not offer to take in one 'you just happen to have not taped over' to show the rest of the class. I recommend week 7 or 8, BBRM!

And what was your response to your teacher? She obviously doesnt know you very well. If you look very hard I think you might find a few minutes worth of some 'interesting moments' to take in to share with the others.

Might be a bit late, but I'd recommend you read Pop Life by Casper Llewellyn Smith.

Even if you've finished your assignment, it's an interesting read on how we, as a society, have succumb to the power of Reality TV, Heat, manufactured pop and other parts of contemporary popular culture.
