Default Snakessssssss

Anybody seen them in the wild in the U.K? I'm fascinated by them and for the first time in my life I saw a grass snake about 2 months ago. We get adders too but I've not managed to catch an eyeful one of those slippery buggers yet. There's always next year....

Any one got any fascinating wild snake stories? (in the U.K) lets av' em!

Saw a grass snake (I think) but then it sort of swam? I didn't know snakes could glide/swim

Alright mate? Was wondering where you were!

We get a lot of adders in the wild down here.

This story was in the news recently as well, not that far from where I live!

Yeh I saw mine near water before i got too close and it hid under a slab. I'm pretty sure they can swim. My Dad picked one up once and reckoned it pretended to be dead and emitted a foul odour.

Don't know how he managed to close enough mind.

Not seen one since I left Africa, apart from my mates corn snake.
Managed to get bit in Africa..nasty.

Now I have a phobia.

Someone up here had to rush their daughter to the doctors over the road when she was bitten by an adder when at the local reservoir.

..yeah, I've seen adders a few times when walking or by the lake when I went fishing with the guys...they move away pretty quickly though, they must be terrified of humans...

Do you live in the South? I've heard adders are more prevalent the further south you go.

I've seen them in Italy. My family live in the countryside. But only small ones.

We used to have a fair few grass snakes in the Garden at our old house. We have a Nature reserve and a Coppice in our town so a fair bit of their wildlife gets into people's Gardens.

..I hate to see them in zoos or on TV..or as pets even but in their habitat I didn't find them too scary..but they do move quickly...

I've never seen any here (or not of the reptile variety) but when I lived in America there were loads, Copperheads were the most dangerous I think.

The coppice looks demonic at night (AND IS LITERALLY RIGHT NEXT TO MY BACK GARDEN) and I once got stabbed in the nature reserve so I find both overrated.
