The self-styled 'hair enthusiast' is the runaway leader in a competition to find the next star of the sportswear chain's ads

Raking it in: 'Ali' looks set to be face of the sportswear chain's next ad campaign

JD Sports could be counting the cost of making a competition public after pranksters hijacked an online campaign.

Self-confessed "hair enthusiast" Rake Ali looks set to be the new face of the sportswear chain after users voted in their droves to send him to the top of the list.

Rake currently leads the voting by nearly 2,000 votes and if - or more likely when - he's crowned winner will see his face plastered on shops and billboards all over the country.

His 'interesting' hairdo seems to have attracted the most attention, while his accompanying bio also makes interesting reading.

"I am an adamant hair enthusiast that gets all the chicks," it says.

"My haircut is one of a kind and looks like a rake."

The image of 'Rake Ali' has spread around the web like wildfire.

One forum user wrote: "We need to see this guy plastered over billboards around the country.

"That’ll teach JD to make the competition public.. Haha."

Falkirk-born Ryan Coutts began the sabotage campaign with his friends on a Facebook group.

He told the Mirror that when Raza Ali added a picture of his car to the group Splitter Scuffers, Ryan and his friends noticed the distinctive haircut straight away and entered him in the contest.

"The whole thing started out as a bit of a joke between us friends, and then it escalated," he said.

Ali is apparently "cool" with the campaign, and Ryan is anxious people keep voting to keep him out in front.
