Her behavior is vile and I think it's quite sad how insecure she is with herself that she feels the need to attack other people. Not sure how she got into prostitution and such but i'm sure she had a troubled upbringing. Everyone is the way they are for a reason.

And everyone has a brain and reasoning power not to let your past create your future, it's all about choice . I am guessing she became an escort to try and give her son a better life and in that she understands what is necessary to make that happen. This is about making herself feel powerful and look powerful by making someone else feel the opposite , the problem she has is Jale is not showing many signs of weakness so Helen is having to ramp up the nasty to try and break her.
