it looks like, the eu state leaders are wanting to have an eu army, whats next, the eu secret police, and have visual and audio surveillance every where, anti eu voters jailed and have their children put into foster homes, it is dictatorship, the leaders want to have a pointless war with russia, over expansion, a former soviet dissident warned that the eu is today the ussr,

I think any cooperation and stronger ties with the forces of the EU Nations is a good thing,it could send a stronger message to those against Europe and with entwined intelligence would only serve the UKs security needs far better likely than at present.
Especially in light of this present govt;s cuts to the UKs armed forces too. |

The Army is already reeling from historic regiments being disbanded and amalgamated. Now, just as we're cutting their numbers to unsustainable figures having handed redundancy notices to servicemen and women while they were still serving in Afghanistan, we're going to tell them they're now going to be part of an EU army. I don't predict it would do very much for recruitment.

It doesn't however look like this govt; is doing much,or indeed anything at all for recruitment either to be honest. |

No, this government is responsible for a lot of discontent within the services. But then, the MOD is run by civilians so what do we expect. I would never support an EU army though, unless it was run alongside our own forces, like the UN Peacekeeping force for instance.

The forces are being treated as all public services as a disposable commodity, only interested in cost cutting, why have redundancies and at the same time up recruitment..
To amend contracts. It's happening across the board, I thought our forces went to the aid of EU countries if required, why then would there be a need for a specific Euro army?

I would say it all depends on circumstances.
We have an ever expanding Nato organisation that has proven very effective and capable. Creating the possibility for integration and cooperation can never be a bad thing, as long as it is done keeping our own independent force. With regard to cuts. They have a huge impact, but in the face of having a deficit and no means to support and pay what we have, impossible decisions have to be taken. This applies across the board wherever cuts are made. That doesn't make the people making the cuts heinous criminals, just decision makers caught between a rock and a hard place where whatever decision is taken will be seen as wrong to a serious proportion of the population. I wouldn't want to be the one making the decisions, so I take the view that I should be supportive of those who do, even if I don't agree with every decision they make. Keep cutting the Army is not on though Bitontheslide as we're still not seeing the Bankers being punished who actually caused the recession.
And with an EU Army we'll be just like the US with it's states system, tbh I wouldn't mind that as long as we don't get any looney laws past through.

People avoid the fact this govt; have taken only minimal token action to the bankers really, who are still lining their pockets massively. It was said the other week, were for instance the Falklands invaded again,we would not have the capability to do what we could in 1982 due to the cuts by govt; to defence. Maybe we would need a lot of help in such an instance from other EU countries, maybe it makes more sense than it doesn't to be more entwined. |

Hashtag In my opinion, a larger Europe n force would be more effective and progress more quickly, and the only reason to be in favour of an armed forces of our own that goes beyond being purely defensive but against a combined EU army is aimless patriotism.
I also very much doubt it would affect recruitment. The majority of young recruits are interested in joining because they are seeking a focus and a career, not For Queen and Country. If the pay cheque and the training possibilities are there then there will be interest. |

I don't see the link between the city and the EU in terms of defence.

I myself prefer to consider the massive contribution the armed forces make as to the whole nation without any lining of their own pockets in the main either. there are many ways, in my view to have a decently successful Country,it doesn't have to involve lining a good many greedy individuals and organisations pockets, all the time as Mock was pointing out too.
