Do people actually believe this? That an opinion is untouchable because it's an opinion?
I mean, everyone has the right to an opinion, but that doesn't mean the opinion is above reproach or being challenged, surely? Do folks really think that all opinions are equal, no matter how informed or supported, or not, they might be?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, but if their opinion is wrong then they should be pulled up on it

yes, they have the right; opinions can and do change and should be flexible in the face of new information - if that new information is correct and contradicts said opinion but the person holding it remains unmoved then the question needing to be asked is 'why?' however, to stand fast in ones opinion because nothing new has challenged it, or the information challenging it is flawed/just plain stupid, isn't a weakness. some people will cling to their opinion no matter what. |

Yes.
Everyone has a right to an opinion, but it can be wrong. |

Everyone has a right to an opinion and everyone else has a right to take issue with that opinion.

By the very definition the word "opinion", it can easily be denounced as utter nonsense.
