Big Brother contestant Jade Goody has apologised to the Indian community and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty during a visit to the Indian capital Delhi. She was accused of racism towards Ms Shetty when they took part in the Channel Four show Celebrity Big Brother in January. "I am sorry for the hurt and pain that my actions caused," Ms Goody told a press conference in Delhi. She is in India on what she describes as a private visit. 'No publicity stunt' She issued her apology at a press conference in Delhi's five star Le Meridien hotel, shown live on some of the private television channels. Earlier in the day, Ms Goody visited a children's charity that she works with and made a donation. "After visiting these children, I realised how small my problems are. They are nothing compared to what these children go through," she said. Ms Goody denied that her visit to India and the donating of money to the charity amounted to a publicity stunt. "This is not a publicity stunt. Nobody knew I was coming here. It was a private visit. If I wanted, I could have got the UK magazines to come here with me," she said. "The money I'm giving to the charity is because I want to help these underprivileged children," she added. Ms Goody, who is in India on a four-day visit, said on this occasion she is "busy with my charity work and will not be able to meet Shilpa [Shetty]". She arrived in Delhi on Monday and hours after her arrival, she was spotted having lunch at a restaurant at her hotel. Since the news of Ms Goody's arrival spread, her every move has attracted media attention with dozens of camera crews following her every step. She is accompanied by three people, including two British Asians. The way that Ms Goody and some of the other Big Brother contestants treated Ms Shetty resulted in more than 40,000 people complaining to the UK media regulator, Ofcom. That led to Ms Goody denying being racist. But she apologised for referring to Ms Shetty as "Shilpa Poppadom" and other remarks. The controversy made front-page news in India but reaction among ordinary Indians to the row was generally muted. On leaving the Big Brother house, the 25-year-old said her behaviour was "nasty" adding: "I'm not racist, but I can see why it has had the impact it's had." Shilpa Shetty was almost unheard of in the UK outside the British Asian community before she entered the Big Brother competition. She soon became a household name. After she won the contest she was invited to visit the Houses of Parliament and to take tea with Prime Minister Tony Blair. |

This is the most blatant and sickening PR stunt I have ever had the misfortune to witness. Piss off Jade!

I cannot express how full of sh*t this whole stunt is. Where do I start? How about this. Why go to India if this is just a private trip linked to her charity? Why not some part of Africa, after all Jade is linked to Comic Relief, so Africa would not have been out of the question. Why go to the home country of the Bollywood star linked to whole race row?
Who does she think she's fooling? |

How did Sky News know she would be there, and interviewed her just as she arrived, if none of the press were told? |

^^^If she's not there on charity work then what this all about? She may be in one of the poorest pats of India but don't you see how convenient it looks. I understand that you're a fan but, come on. Did you read my post on the other thread basically stating that she should quietly rebuild her reputation over say 2-3 years then step back in to the limelight. Why is that so out of the question? Her tactics at the moment are so blatant that I'm amazed at anybody who can't see it? |

She is not naive. She is a stupid cow! People have been saying she is naive and has lack of culture since the alleged race row. She should have learnt by now for christs sake!

I think she IS naive but you underestimate how much control she has. I don't for a minute think she's being forced into doing anything against her will. Her PR people are good, we're all aware of that, but I'm sure Jade could stand up to them if she felt that she was being exploited.
I think she's a willing party in all of this. |

From Sky News:
'I Just Want To Help' Updated: 14:04, Tuesday February 27, 2007 Jade Goody has donated more than Ł25,000 to an Indian children's charity while on a visit to the country. The Big Brother star made the trip to New Delhi following the row over her alleged racist bullying of Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty. Jade spent nearly 90 minutes with some of the children at the charity "Anubhav" or "Experience", which cares for youngsters who have run away from home. "I am not giving the money to improve my image. It is to improve the lives of the underprivileged children," she said. Ahhhhhhhh. Don't we all just love Jade now. ![]() |

Jade wants the fame and the money that comes with it, Is it not possible She thought it could have been all over? after all even her agent said it was work was 'going down the drain', I think Jade is willing to do anything now to prove to people that She is sorry for what she has said and for what she has done (Which imo, wasn't that bad, but anywhoo..) and She will do anything her agent tells her to do because she knows he is the professional (although, that could be debatable at the moment.) [/quote] I think the 'work going down the drain' comment was part of the sympathy campaign. It was to prove that Jade had reached rock bottom and it was time to forgive and forget. Your scenario may well be true but I don't think Jade is that weak; I hope for her sake that she isn't. With her PR team, it's inevitable that Jade will rebuild her career; I think they’re one of the best in the business, but she has to look long term, as people will not forget what happened in the house and this is why the trip to India infuriates me. It’s almost as if she thinks she can shake a few hands and say sorry a few time and it will all go away. Accusations of racism stick and can only be eradicated years and years of hard work. |

Until we find a new "Jade" figure Jade will always be around doing something I think. People need to forgive and forget and move on. I think Danielle is doing pretty good so far following in Jades footsteps..magazine and paper wise...plus the public seem to have forgiven her alot more easy. I still think Jade is a great character and she will be around for a few more years at the very least.

Actually, my opinion of Jade has gone down further and further since she left the house. At one point, I started to feel sorry for her, and said we should leave her alone. But this latest, in a string of PR stunts, stinks. She is contradicting herself, and is so blatant about what she is doing, and this is just a ruse to gain more sympathy, but is actually having the opposite affect to some of the people on here. People do need to forgive and forget, so why is she all over the news doing this? I don't think she has any remorse, she is just trying to save her miserable career. |

Precisely. Danielle laid low. Didn't do loads of interviews, went on holiday, and as soon as she came out of the house said she had learnt "not to be such a bitch". Jade continually did interviews, and pulled PR stunts, to try and gain sympathy, and is still doing it now, and it's making a lot of people sick. She has really gone down in my estimation. |

It's almost like Jade is the victim of the big bad press, when her PR people probably planted many of the stories we've read. A good PR should know how to work the press and Jades team are the best. |
