Default Drunk Driving

The Nicole Richie threads have brought this issue up, and I thought I'd post a thread here for us to discuss our views on it.

Good Idea Ash

Take some time to read Jacqui Saburido's life story. It's hard reading, but it doesn't dress up the issue.

Blimey Linda that story sure is hard reading, i dont quite know what to say other than anyone who drinks and drives deserves to be punished, people know the rules they should stick to them, these days you get far too many people who say 'oh ive only had a few' and all that rubbish yet their the ones who end up crashing and killing/injuring others.

Simple

Drink drive Limit should be zero

1st time punishment should be a minimum two year ban

2nd time should be a lifetime ban

Such a tragic story yet so familiar for those who have already had their lives ruined by drink drivers.

I am with spacebandit here zero should be the limit

Thats such a sad story
Im glad shes recovering though.

I watched a video at school about driving in general and there was a bit about drink driving.
Innocent people have to suffer, thats the bad thing.

I agree. But not only a driving ban, I think a custodial sentence as well. The reason I say this is because of the sheer number of people who still drive even though they are banned.

How many times do you see it on the "cops" shows on TV. Drivers who are banned, running around in un-roadworthy cars. Shows that they have no respect for the law.

Either the drink-driving charge should include a custodial sentence or else a banned driver being caught should be jailed.

Something needs done. There is little or no respect for driving laws in this country (or any other laws for that matter but that's a whole other thread!).

I see where you are coming from Stropz, so many carry on driving they think the risk is ok at the end of the day they are only going to have their ban extended if they do!

Lokk at the people who die through the actions of these idiots, they are very remorseful I give them that but it doesnt give the other person their life back. Longer sentences are needed for these kind of offences, but the same could be said for many of the laws in this country.

And if you kill someone while driving under the influence - the charge should be murder, not the shameful vehicular manslaughter politically correct BS we operate now

As it should if you kill someone whilst driving a stolen car - murder as well

The thing is, even murder only carries a 15 year sentence, which with good behaviour means 8.

I could walk out and kill someone, stand up in court and say I did it intentionally and serve 8 years for my trouble... It's a joke.

Drink Driving should NOT be accepted. You should be banned from driving for life if you're caught. You're putting your own life and other innocent people's lifes at risk. Just my opinion.
