Default History of the BB logo

OK, I'm a little bored so I'm going to just do the History of the BB logo.

BB1

As this was the first series of BB, the producers didn't think it would be a hit and so there was no iconic logo for this year. Instead, based on the cover of 1984 where, of course, the idea of Big Brother came from, the logo was simply a Human eye.

CBB1

Again, no iconic eye, as that was yet to come. Instead, the logo was a slight variation of the BB1 eye and the 'O' in 'Big Brother' was a Red Nose, as CBB1 was done for Comic Relief.

BB2

The second series of BB saw the iconic eye logo introduced, and it seems like Eatock wanted it to have a 21st Century/Futuristic feel as silver and grey are the predominant colours, with what look like TV waves going across, which would be suitable for obvious reasons. It is clear that the eye has yet to be fully developed as the iris doesn't face the centre like later variations.

BB3

The eye for Big Brother 3 was actually magenta on a light blue background, but the abundance of thin yellow rings surrounding it gave the optical illusion of it being orange on a green background. This could possibly have something to do with people and how they shouldn't believe everything they see, and deception, as in Week 3 Big Brother divided the House in two: One side living in luxury with the other living in squalor after they thought that life in the House was easy, though I'm unsure if Eatock related the eye to the theme of the series back then.

CBB2

The only CBB eye to look nothing like the series it followed. The pink eye related to the glitz and glamour of celebrities, and obviously the star as the eye's iris meant...well, stars.

BB4

BB producers wanted the 4th series to see an easier life for the Housemates, so Eatock designed an eye that was easy to look at and nicely decorated. Indeed, when the psychedelic, rainbow-coloured eye was revealed for BB4, it went down well. However, it didn't match that year's theme well - back to basics - as it was the most complex eye up to that point! Still, it wasn't as harsh as the BB2 and 3 eyes. The eye was accompanied by lines striking each corner.

TBB

Said to be given a "bling" look to identify with teen culture for Teen BB, the metallic TBB eye was on a background with a pattern similar to the BB4 eye.

BB5

After the disaster of BB4 (VHousemates were too nice) Big Brother decided it was time to fix up and change the format. They made the House smaller and BB became evil, which was the theme of the series in 2004. And the now famous eye logo looked menacing itself, with jagged red lines forming the eye on a depressing blue background. BB5 later went on to become the most popular series.

CBB3

After a two-and-a-half year break, CBB came back. The eye itself was not much different to the BB5 eye, save the background colour being black instead of blue, possibly giving it a more "wintery" feel and a star in place of the iris, like CBB2.

BB6

The eye for BB6 was called "shattered" and it certainly looked that way. The eye had two colours, black and blue, and looked like it had been assembled together as the pieces didn't quite fit. The eye looked like it had a misfortunate predicament, like the Housemates of that year, as Big Brother continued the evil theme.

CBB4

Again, not much different to the preceeding series besides a star instead of the iris.

BB7

A popular one among fans, the BB7 eye was yellow on a black background. The eye bore spirals and the theme of BB7 was said to be "twisted", which was appropriate considering how the lines in the eye were, well, twisted. It could have also implied that there would be a lot of twists in this series in which case it was spot on, what with the return of Nikki and Aisleyne going to the HND. Yellow and black are also associated with electricity, and the eye fir in well with the futuristic look of the House.

CBB5

Again, not much different to the preceeding series besides a star instead of the iris.

BB8

When the BB8 eye was released many opinions were divided. ome loved the eye, saying it was different and unexpected whilst others thought that it looked cheap, tacky and ugly, and Daniel Eatock himself noticed this. Either way, there have been several theories about the eye. Some say the bright colours are supposed to represent gay pride, and that Eatock wanted to improve BB after the Shilpa Shetty racism controversy in CBB5. Others think it looks like the colour scheme of a testcard, and that it could mean something, such as a disturbance in the House. One person even spotted a white part connecting with the white iris and said it forms what looks like a keyhole, which could mean something.

So there you have it. Eight years, 14 series' and a WHOLE LOTTA eyes!
