Default BBC pulls out of Neighbours fight

Full story on BBC News Online

Quote:
The BBC has pulled out of a bidding war for the long-running Australian daytime soap Neighbours.

The show has aired twice a day since 1986, but the BBC has now withdrawn from talks to renew its contract.

BBC One controller Peter Fincham said he had been asked to pay £300m over eight years - "roughly three times" what the BBC had already been paying.

"We'd love to have kept it but not at any price," he said. The show will end on BBC One next spring.

BTW I do not watch this programme

This is crap for me as I've watched it since the very beginning, but I do not get channel 5
It’s all to do with a hill and a transmitter that seems to be nobody’s job to pay to have it retuned, though now digital is in the pipeline it has been decided it will not be done.

You assume that Murdoch does not get it and put it on Sky One so all those on Virgin Media have to switch to sky

The only thing that annoys me about five is they put Home and away on at 6 when i usually have my tea so they might do same thing with neighbours about 7ish when i usually come on computer.

I heard on five news that Channel Five have got it.

At least it is still on terrestrial television.

BTW I still do not watch it or Home and away. At least they are not going to mess about with the Archers like that.

Neighbours not on BBC 1, quite shocking really... mind you always miss it and did not think it was doing that well anymore anyway.
