Default Bring back SWASHBUCKLERS!

One genre which seems all but dead is swashbuckling movies. Pirates of the Carribean is pretty much the only (mainstream) representation they have these days... Pretty much all movies which have similar settings to swashbucklers seem to be trying to be Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones, which is fine, but doesn't always suit the film.

What makes a swashbuckler? Fun, decent action. Something of a fantastical setting, or at least sparkle-eyed. They should take themselves seriously, but still be campy and flamboyant.

Old examples might be the Sinbad movies, Zorro, and most versions of Robin Hood.

Only the first two Pirates films were any good, though. The third was OK. I feel like it's a genre that can go either way, to be watchable it has to be very well done.

To be fair all genres can go either way I don't like all swashbucklers, of course. But it's a genre I feel would be welcome if done well.
