Liam has got money to burn

GOBSMACKED Liam McGough celebrates with a calming ciggie after Big Brother handed him a whopping £100,000 prize last night.
BB bosses staged the surprise giveaway in a desperate attempt to win back millions of lost viewers. The three housemates facing eviction — Seany, Carole and Jonathan — were called into the Diary Room to decide which of the 12 others would scoop the massive payout.

They had one minute to pick a winner and plumped for Liam. When the 22-year-old tree surgeon was told, he could only mumble: “Thanks, thanks a lot.”

The overwhelmed contestant then went off to make a SALAD, slicing up lettuce, before going to the Diary Room to ask BB for beer.

The plot began on two special live shows when the housemates were all called into the lounge and the plasma TV burst into life — revealing a pile of cash on the Diary Room chair in a transparent briefcase.

After Seany, Carole and Jonathan made their decision embarrassed Liam, from Lanchester, Co Durham, SOBBED as he was congratulated by cheering housemates. He then puffed on a cigarette to calm his nerves.

But the other contestants struggled to hide their jealousy — all convinced he had won the show’s £100,000 winning prize.

He hadn’t — Big Brother had stumped up a separate £100,000 for last night’s “evil trick”.

Before the giveaway Davina McCall told stunned viewers: “As far as the housemates are concerned, one of them will have snaffled the £100,000 prize fund.”

Bosses hope housemates will think their chance to win has gone and reveal different sides to themselves. A source said: “They plan to string them along for as long as possible.”

Only Gerry came close to guessing the trick, asking: “So what’s happening now?”
