Default Identifying a dead friend

On Saturday afternoon I went to check on someone after one of his mums carer phoned me on Thursday to say had I seen him

I only really saw him when he needed me to do things for him

His mum was back in hospital or a nursing home waiting to come back home

I wasn’t going to check and was driving in the opposite direction but some thing made me turn around

He lived in a caravan in his mums garden, his car was outside

I went to the door of the house and got no answer, i then went to the caravan and got no answer
I looked through a small window in the kitchen that lead onto the front room
I thought I could see some one laying on the front room floor in front of the sofa

But I was doubting myself a neighbour across the road who knew the family for many was in his front garden, I went and asked him to look through the window and confirm it was a person

He said yes, I phoned 999 and asked for the police the doors and windows were shut

Was put through to the ambulance service , they turned up and said it didn’t look good, they called the fire brigade who put the door in, the paramedics went inside and came out a shot time after to say he had passed away
The the police turned up

Asked me a load of questions , paramedics said he been there some time, police and paramedics mood changed a bit towards me , I heard a police man talking to the station that he had some bruises to his chest and sternum

Eventually another higher ranking officer came out and was talked through the scene

The original officer came to me and said he was not going to get me to make a statement as he was happy it was natural causes

My friend was a heavy drinker he was probably in his mid to late 50’s

I had to identify his body.

Just wanted to share that with you guys

Listen, we don’t always exactly see eye-to-eye but you’re just human like the rest of us and you have your own feelings that are perfectly, perfectly valid. Sounds like you’ve had a really rough ordeal on your hands this weekend. Just know that your friend would be proud.

Thank you

I feel for his mum, she has now lost three of her kids another son to drugs a daughter to drink

She has one daughter left who has robbed from her in the past, she has drink and drug issues

Their step dad died a few years back in the same house on the landing from a heart attack

Reminds me of another selfish man I know..shot himself in the face at his work office and left himself for his lad to come into work next day.

I'm not sure how I feel about suicide. On one hand It could be described as brave, dunno about you but I've chickened out once before. On the other hand, and probably the correct hand, it's really selfish.

But sherrif, it's a horrible thing to find, I had a friend who went through something very similar to you, and tbh with you, it changed hom a bit. Not dramatically, but a bit.

PTSD can be associated with so many things my friend, so seek help if you are feeling any different in the months to come. Dont do what I do, be a man and admit you need help.
