French authorities have launched a major investigation into the alleged attack
in the northern Pigalle district just days before the Olympics begins. She told police she was set upon by five men 'of African appearance' and raped at about 5 am before escaping and seeking safety in a nearby kebab shop. A spokesperson for the Alliance 75 police union said the woman had been due to return home to Australia but instead remained in France to help with the investigation.
