Am I missing something, isn't tourism the main income on the coasts of Majorca? They want a better life, where is the income coming from

But it's really not the same - tourists go there specifically to spend money, and rich retirees are economically contributing.
So not really like "our" migrants.

Basically.
![]() Only the British Media will twist this one into something more sinister because the Spanish are saying it to our citizens, instead of other groups of people.

The funny thing is if Brits do pull their custom they will really suffer, Spanish families tend to cook at home on holiday and when they go out they have a bottle of water on the table that lasts them all night, so good luck with the tourism economy it really is a case of be careful what you wish for, there are too many other destinations where tourists will be welcomed

Remembering Kerry
|
It isn't an issue for me.
I've been to Spain in my teens and enjoyed it but it's never been a favoured choice of consideration to visit. I'm very pro European as to most Countries in Europe but Spain is one I could very happily pass by. |

I know tourism creates certain issues, but I think the issues lie with corporations such as AirBnB and not with the individuals themselves - it feels very...biting the hand that feeds you if you're protesting against tourism in a city or town where it's biggest economy is just that. I think there should probably be greater restrictions placed on subletting/holiday homes which would ease the main issue of people being priced out their hometown quite substantially.
I feel for the people from these towns/cities who were born and raised there. However if you move to a place like Barcelona or Madrid and then complain about tourism I truly don't know what you expected. Like Joey though, I've done my bit with Spain. I'd maybe like to visit Seville, but other than that I am switching my focus for travel firmly to Asia. Last edited by BBXX; 16-06-2025 at 05:09 PM. |

They are attacking Cruise Ships though, not Air B and B, its all just nonsense We are off to our place on Wednesday I don't expect there will be any protests, the local businesses rely on the summer business carry them through the winter, and anyway the resort is too small to attract anything of note

I can see how it's similar to opposition to immigration - in both cases a lot of people will have seen their areas transformed without feeling they had any say in it and without feeling any better off themselves. You're not that fussed about GDP figures if you're confronted with overcrowding and antisocial behaviour all the time and if the only jobs available are in hospitality - which few people dream of having a career in. Both tourism and immigration can enrich and benefit a place but it can also strain it
