Default The media ruining peoples lives?

I have been watching some Britney interviews and one 2006 interview was very emotional, and do you think its fair that media can ruin these peoples lives so easily?

Some people say its just their job, but I think sometimes things go way to far.

Opinions?

I think the media is the only reason she even became famous in the first place, otherwise none of us would have heard of her.

So she has a lot to thank them for.
She also is more than willing to put down her car window and let photographers take pictures of her when she feels like it, but then hides herself when she doesn't feel like it.

She knew she'd get lots of press attention when she got into this line of work.

And I also think you shouldn't try to become famous unless you're a strong person who can ignore all the things said about you. Or simply just don't buy newspapers with stories about yourself in them =]

That being said, I do think the media purposefully prays on people and can make them look bad to the entire world if they choose to do so.
But like I said, without all those stories and pictures, Britney Spears would be a name none of us even know. So the media is the reason she has all that money and such a secure life.

Few bad stories on television etc is a small price to pay im thinking.
Also, isn't she in the middle of re inventing herself? and making a comeback?
If that goes well, she'll have the media to thank for making her life better.

Ah well they're a little different...
They didn't choose to be worldwide famous, but are instead famous for the tragic loss of a daughter [whether it be kidnapping/death.]

The media really has made their lives worse, as they've started rumours that the parents killed their daughter [either on purpose or by accident.]

If they didn't kill their daughter, then that really is a classic example of the media ruining people's lives.

It can ruin peoples life if you let it the papers always seem to pick up on the negative side of thing. My family were in the papers 3 years ago after my daughter died in a road accident one national newspaper and from one paper to another the story was twisted so much they made it seem like my husband was to blame the news on the telly also got it wrong it was upsetting but people kept saying "todays news tomorrows chip paper".But unlike the celebrities they have to put up with it every day.

Sometimes the papers pick a negative side without you showing them one =] so that's hardly fair.

Eg. The Mccann's..they haven't shown any negativity. Yet they're being accused by some of murdering their own child.

Are you saying that was their fault for "letting" the media portray them like that?

They can't stop them saying those things, so I don't see how it'd be their fault.

the media - when they want it to flog you albums or perfume, or just themselves as so many z-listers do - its the greatest thing they can imagine - the tool of their trade, nothing is too cynical as long as the media publish it for you to read, or watch

When they slip up it becomes a monster apparently out to destroy them, and they cry foul.

Live by the sword - die by the sword - I have no sympathy.

The media are just infatuated with certain stars, Britney Spears mostly.
She'll have tens of cars following her all day, photographers lurking around her house, taking photos of her in her garden, they even follow her bodyguard when he goes out to get her grocerys. It's discusting how they do this to certain people, but at the same time it can be beneficial.

The media can certainly be harsh on people. But a lot of these people manipulate the media, and then complain when the media don't play by their rules. You get some folks who will do anything to get their face in the paper, but then complain that they are not getting any privacy.

These people who claim that they wish the media would leave them alone, would probably hate it if the media did just that - ie, printed nothing about them whatsoever and ignored everything they did.

I don't have a great deal of sympathy for people like Britney, desperate ex-Big Brother housemates, Paris, Nicole, Lindsay, Pete Doherty, Amy Winehouse - they use the media to their own ends, and nobody forces them to give interviews, I have a little bit more compassion for people like you and me who may suddenly find themselves thrust into the spotlight, and don't have an army of advisors to teach them how to deal with it.
