Usually characters get time off because there's nothing to do with them whilst bigger storylines develop. He'll probably have a few cameos soon - just so people know he's still around.

The actor had a stroke, it was in my local newspaper as he lives a few miles from me and was in the my towns hospital.

He was suffering from ill health a few months ago so maybe he has had a stroke.
