Cerys: We didn't mean to hurt anybody

CERYS Matthews says she got to know Marc Bannerman much better in the jungle than she would have done if they'd met in the UK.

In an exclusive interview with the News of the World, the singer said: "In the jungle everyone works together, lives together, eats together, so you can get to know someone much quicker than in the outside world.

"(But) it's not sweet for someone's boyfriend to tell a girl the stars are beautiful.

"We had not intended to hurt anybody. I'm not that type of person and I don't think Marc is.

"I never set out to get attracted to someone in a relationship. We didn't do anything physically, although mentally we had crossed that line.

"But I couldn't help falling in love with him, I have those feelings you get when you are in the first flush of love and your tummy flips."

Cerys added: "I hadn't been worried about me and Marc our eyes told us a lot and I knew it was going to be okay.

"I still know it's going to be okay."

After her own eviction, Cerys returned to her own hotel room and rang her parents in Portugal.

She said: "They didn't watch the show, but they have been worried about me, not because I have fallen for Marc but because I have fallen for a man. They're parents and I am their little girl, who has been through a lot.

"The last time I was in the public eye wasn't easy for them when I was in Catatonia. No parents like to see their child unhappy.

"They were worried I was causing problems for myself by putting myself out in the spotlight again.

"They didn't know if it was going to send me on another spiral of depression. But they said they'd stand by me whatever decision I make."

Talking about a note from Marc she received after leaving jungle, Carys added: "It's very private and special to me, but basically he explained what was going on with him and Sarah at home and how he had been forced to fly home.

"He asked me to get in touch-if that's what I wanted to do. It had his number on it, so I called as soon as I had spoken to my family.

"I was so happy to see the children and my brothers didn't give me the letter until I'd had an hour without a microphone on and had had a bath.

"But it was so strange when I rang him. It was a natural progression and the first time we could talk properly but I still thought there were cameras in the hotel room or a microphone listening in.

"It was a lovely call though, his familiar voice at the end of the line and he'd gone through a horrible time so he was relieved to hear my voice. I was relieved that his voice was still the same.

"We didn't even say we love each other. The thing with Marc is that I don't have to say anything to him and he doesn't have to say anything to me-we know ...

"He told me about the story (in the papers) about him supposedly beating Sarah up.

"That didn't put me off him. I can only judge people on how they behave to me. He was quite up front about it.

"He's a good man. He said things were very difficult and there was a lot of bad press and how he'd been portrayed in a bad way.

"He said he was keeping his head down and he feels badly about how everything came about. We didn't dwell on the allegations.

"We just wanted to reassure each other that our feelings are still as intense as they were in the jungle.

"I wasn't worried that he wasn't feeling the same.

"I knew it was a solid basis and I keep laughing because this thing happened in 11 days. I can't explain it but I don't feel insecure about it at all. I just feel excited and can't wait to see him.

"We're planning to get together as soon as we're back. I'm an old-fashioned girl and I'm not about to jump straight into bed with him... we've got all that to look forward to."

Cerys added: "It's been a crazy crazy time. I officially split up in February and the divorce came through in July.

"I sold the house and the car, moved home on October 3rd and then went into the jungle November 6.

"I've been living next door to mum and dad in their cottage. I've got my whole family around me and it is wonderful, I feel settled.

"When you go through something as traumatic as your marriage breaking up, it's like a whole new world out there.

"My whole life is exciting but very fresh and new. I need to put the children's needs first."

She's pathetic and is so annoying I think she's got the most annoying voice ever!!! At the end of the day she knew Marc was in a relationship, she knew what she was doing. I think it's all rubbish how Anna said they were never flirty round each other...they so was!!!
