X Factor's squeaky clean Sarah Smith has revealed that she and show favourite Rhydian Roberts have become inseparable behind the scenes.

Just how close the pair - both staunch Christians - now are may come as a surprise to blonde Sarah's mystery boyfriend.

The 18-year-old Same Difference singer has confided in pals about how much she admires Welsh warbler Rhydian.

She told one friend: "He is so charming and we share so many passions. We were drawn together by our love of God. Rhydian has been so supportive to me and I really admire his strength."

Sarah said of self-proclaimed virgin Rhydian, 24: "He really is very sexy too."

Show insiders said the pair cuddle, have flirty chats, spend all their spare time together and "are a good match".

Sarah's friend said: "She has become very close to Rhydian. They have a good laugh and share the same Christian values. They have been inseparable." But the friendship has triggered rows between Sarah and her brother and singing partner Sean, 21.

One source on the ITV1 show said: "He thinks she could fall in love and jeopardise their chances on the show."

But as Same Difference and Rhydian last night remained favourites to make the finals, it was not certain what Sarah's present boyfriend will make of her friendship.

The singer is believed to have been dating him for some time - but is careful to keep him out of the public gaze.

Sarah has never named him or hinted where he is from. She said lastweek: "It's been hard being away from my boyfriend but we're fine.

"He knows this is a dream come true for me and is being supportive. We are on the phone all the time. But he doesn't want to be in the lime-light, he leaves that to me." But an X Factor source said: "It's obvious to everyone here she has strong feelings for Rhydian and he looks to have for her.

"The two of them are so sweet together it's rather sickening. They are always cuddling and sharing private conversations in the house.

"The other day Sarah was joking with Rhydian and singing a duet with him for a laugh. She was helping him with his harmonies.

"They were singing Bridge Over Trouble Water - and if Sean has anything to do with it there is some choppy water to come."

Insiders said brother and sister fell out when the remaining X Factor acts were each recording their version of the winner's single. One source said: "Sean wasn't happy with their vocals but Sarah was eager to wrap it up.

"She was going out for an intimate dinner with Rhydian and was really looking forward to it. But Sean wanted her to work on her singing instead.

"There was none of their normal smiles that day. Then he caught her doing a duet with Rhydian and was really upset. At this stage of the competition he thinks it should be all work and no play."

Sarah still lives with her parents in Portsmouth, Hants.

Rhydian's one known girlfriend, Hungarian Marosfalvi Tunde, 26, has told The People he refused to have sex with her because of his beliefs.

An X Factor spokesman said last night: "Everyone in the house has a close relationship."
