REALITY television star Emma Greenwood really does care about Big Brother – her brave older brother Lee is a soldier just returned from Iraq.

The 20-year-old legal administrator from Chesney Avenue, Chadderton, has become an overnight celebrity on the fifth series of Channel 4's Big Brother.

Until recently Emma, who has been nicknamed the new Jade, was scouring the TV news bulletins for news about her brother Lee, 21, while he was at war in the Gulf with the Household Cavalry.

Now it is Lee who is watching the Channel 4 show with his pals at their barracks in Windsor, cheering her battle to win the programme’s top prize.

He said: "When I was in Iraq Emma was watching the TV for news all the time. She was very worried."

"We’ve always been very close. Now I'm watching the TV to see how she's getting on."

"The lads have been winding me up a bit but I’m really pleased for her. She’s doing really well."

Millions of people around the world are also watching Emma, who also has a sister, Kaley, aged nine.

But her mum Karen, 42, says she’s sure the experience will not change her caring and down-to-earth daughter.

She said: "What you see on screen is the real Emma. Everyone who knows her would say ‘that’s her’."

"She’s always laughing and joking and she’s a very caring person. She’ll go out of her way to make all the other people in the house feel welcome."

Karen said: "Emma was bored with work and was planning to go back to Spain, where she had worked as an entertainer."

"I told her to give the audition a try. She was called back the next day and over the next few weeks attended five interviews in London and had psychological tests."

But while Lee is regularly watching the show in Windsor, Karen is trying not to view constantly.

She said: "I’ve been watching it all the time and it’s become a bit of an obsession. I’m trying to cut down now."
