A NORTH Wales MP has has slated producers of the latest Big Brother series, describing it as a "showcase for puerile behaviour".

Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami accused programme makers of manipulating dangerous situations designed for the sole purpose of boosting viewing figures.

Mr Tami was speaking in the wake of last week's bust-up in the house which prompted a police investigation.

He said: "Many of us suspected things would get out of hand when this series was billed as the 'evil Big Brother'. "The makers had to do something extreme to maintain the momentum of previous years, but this series has become a rotten showcase for puerile and vindictive behaviour.

"Clearly, there is also desperation to see contestants engage in sexual activities and I find the fact police have been called to the house very alarming.

"Public resources should not be used to prop up a grotesque series of activities."
