Default *sigh*

I just like to raise a point that been nagging me recently. I've seen lots of insults (in jest) from members recently and I for one find it very uncomfortable.

I know its all for a laugh, but surely this sort of thing makes insults more acceptable? Anyone can call someone a bitch or ***** and then say (joke)

But does it make it right? Or maybe its just me getting old

Anyway, there are all sorts of ages on the forum but I dont think we should be making insults the norm even in jest

I personally have no problem with receiving or dishing out insults if I know they're a joke, but I find if I am seriously called a name and they actually mean it then that's when I find it offensive.

Depends on the way it's said, really. I know when to distinguish between a joke and insult, because you either know the person you're jokingly-insulting or you don't.

I kind of agree, although I am sure I have been guilty of this.
Its ok in small amounts, but it can get abit OTT as all things!

Mostly your one liners... its a good quality to be funny and people know that your not really insulting them, you are just having a laugh...

But who says it a joke or not? Others would read it and assume they can use that sort of behavior?

As I said above, it maybe an 'in' joke so some but others will think its acceptable to use this free way of speaking to each other

Also I find that the only joking insults which are unacceptable are if they bring your family or friends into it, that is when the level of joking reaches an unacceptable level.

A smiley helps to define whether its a joke or serious.

I have no problem with them, most of them are jokes and if their serious then a mod will sort it out.

But I don't use joke-insults on people I don't know, and people I know will take it seriously.

I never said it was okay, I said it defined whether the name was a joke or serious. Surely this thread adds a negative atmosphere to the forum, I insult as a joke and no one has complained to me, they go along with the joke so clearly people can tell when I'm joking or not.

your misunderstanding me. You may call someone something and the person you are talking to gets the jibe but maybe others read that and then think its ok to call someone a bitch/***** because you did it in jest?

Right.... I cant even try and express how this insults effect others without being told this thread adds negativity to the forum. But calling someone a ***** as a joke doesnt.

I wont bother next time. This really makes me very sad that TiBB has become ok to throw insults about so long as the other person knows its a joke.

But the majority of people see it as a joke, I don't think there's been any incidents where people copied someone and used it as an insult.

Well if the person who the it's targeted at then surely it's not an 'insult' as such because it's not offending them at all in anyway.

It does add negativity though. No one has complained to me about it and I do it in almost every post, everyone goes along with the joke, however you've made a specific point to raise an issue up out of nothing.

I understand you were only expressing your concerns though and I appreciate that
