Default Is the world going to end in 2012?

Is planet Earth soon to become the sexiest non-existent planet in the universe? Or will it shimmer down until the sun goes down?

I don't believe any of this "The world's going to end in [this year]". Why would people want to tell everyone? To make us all miserable.

I don't know how anyone can be so sure. We just can't say. I watched the documentary on the world ending in 2012 a while ago, and watched it again recently. It really scared me! I found it interesting, and wasn't sure if I found it ridiculous or truly could find some sense in it. They obviously made it scarier by using actors to act out parts of previous psychics with their prophecies etc. It all seemed to link to 2012.

I've heard stories being made up about the world ending in such and such year before (e.g. 2000), but it didn't seem to be backed up by the same amount of evidence. I don't know... I find it hard to believe that previous civilisations predicted such things, and even then, what's to say it's right? It may just be coincidence that they're all leading to the same date, although it does seem odd that so many people have predicted the same date.

I don't know really; we're powerless to natural disasters etc. generally anyway, so there's no point dwelling on things. But I don't see why the world should end at a point when we seem to be at the peak of existence (advanced technology etc.); it'd be more ideal to wait until the sun goes down or something like that. I don't like to think about it too much though, because as I said - it's one of those things we can't control and it just gets worrying.

For those interested, the documentary is on Youtube. Here's the first part: it's one of 5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5fLxAqfnjA

Humans will be extinct before the earth ends. How do they plan on the earth ending? haha.
If the sun grows and gets so big it destroys the earth, that plausible would take a couple 100 years... comet flying into earth destroying it? Highly doubt it, anything slightly big would mostly break down in the atmosphere and if not it would only kill humans not destroy the earth.

Anyone remember that the world was to end in 2000?

Not sure, i don't think it will end, however, there are prophecies ect... which have lead people to believe that the world could end, if it is true, and the world is going to end, wouldn't that just question all the sceptics about prophecies and people predicting the future ? I am not sure about this, i am sceptical (e.g 2000 prediction) but like Ash said, there is more evidence to go by. If these predictions are true, then i can only see humans dying and not the world ending, unless the sun hasn't told us something either way, i think it won't end just yet.

How can they possibly predict back then, that the world was going to end in 2012?
Yes, the world will come to a end one day but that hopefully will be in many years to come. The sun is half way through its lifetime, the chances of a comet/asteroid hittng earth is very slim and scientists track them all the time and area able to predict if they will or not hit the earth.
So no, I don't believe back then they could predict the earth is going to end.
