When I was in America most people thought we either spoke in a posh accent or in a cockney accent. It was quite funny really, someone told me that I wasn't english because I didn't sound like the people from Harry Potter.

We're well liked in America from what I can tell.

Yeah, same thing happened one of my teachers, She was out with a pile of Americans and they told her that her English was very good because she has a Northern Irish accent. They thought she was forgien lol

There's funny stereotypes with every nation, though we're probably hated by a few because of Iraq. Not that I care - the only people whose thoughts matter are those who are in charge of foreign relations, wars, etc.

I watched wildchild and we were portrayed as posh snobs who liked hunting and tea, and went to old fashioned boarding schools and played lacrosse !

Tbh, I don't like to view myself as British because being British is perceived by other people as being English. I've got nothing whatsoever against England at all, but I am Welsh and I don't tell people that I'm British, I tell them I'm Welsh.

Yeah there are two different opinions on us
Americans see us as posh and drink tea all day
but in Europe especially holiday destinations they see us as big, fat, drunk idiots.

I prefer the American opinion

Well, I know from where I come from, in Northern Ireland, that we are divided in opinion of British people, because of the whole troubles thingy. In summary, Catholics tend to dislike the British, and Protestants tend to support them. I don't really have an opinion, tbh. A person's a person, regardless of nationality, and you can't really make an assumption of one nation, until you have met every person from that country, which is impossible.

I can understand why Europeans have that opinion of us though.

I love the Brits, although apprently thats a strange thing for a Irish person to do. I hate being stereotyped as a Guiness-drinking,movie-Irish accent leprachaun so I wouldn't do it about the Brits.

I travelled throughout Europe and America. I studied in France, and been to Portugal on holiday. It was just a real nice time, and the people didn't look at me any differently (the language barrier is sometimes frustrating, but I speak some French, not a word of Portugese though)

In America, they were instantly enamoured by the accent. I ahd to repeat myself a lot. They seem generally interested, because they don't know much about anywhere else bar America. They were really nice though.

Basically, if you don't fit a stereotype, you won't be seen as one.

What like...

"The jury is still out on evolution" - George W. Bush

That's the important side of modern thought is it?

Usually we all think that British people are cool, but stuck up...with bad teeth and posh accents.

It's a stereotype much like how everyone in the world thinks that Americans are all fat and love fast food (I absolutely hate fast food)
