Action girl Martina wins ten stars for the camp in I\'m A Celebrity bush tucker trial
Quote:
Action girl Martina wins ten stars for the camp in I'm A Celebrity bush tucker trial t was like a scene from an action movie. Martina Navratilova jumping between cars, hung from a great height, searching them as she went.
After finding the hidden treasure she leapt to the next car, with seconds to spare as the vehicle she had just left plunged into the murky waters below.
But it wasn't gold she was searching for, but paper stars. And the tennis ace triumphed - taking a perfect ten back to camp.
Martina was selected for the trial by her fellow campmates, who decided the athlete would be the perfect choice to take part in the Carnage challenge.
As George and Brian walked her up to the bridge George quipped ‘the gay trio’.
As he saw her off he added: ‘Carnage is something she has meted out on the tennis court and whatever this challenge is she’s the woman who can do it and we’re hungry. She’s an athlete and a champion and the best that we have.’
Meeting Ant and Dec by the Trial Martina told them: ‘I’ve not done one yet and it was between Esther and I as to who did it. Because it is a physical challenge we decided it would be one for me. I had been looking forward to it but I’m not so sure now.’
Dec told her: ‘You have to get in the front seat of that mini, it will be winched up in the air and in line with the other four minis hanging over the creek. You have to climb out of the sunroof and go from bonnet to boot jumping from car to car searching for stars.'
Panting as she clambered over the cars leaping fearlessly from bonnet to bumper Martina successfully retrieved all the available stars with only a second to spare before the final car crashed into the water.
An elated Martina rejoined Ant and Dec and said she was ‘pleased as punch’, but worried that it might be the curse of the camp.
’Robert got perfect and then he got booted out,’ she said.
‘It was tough, I was out of breath but I was so determined to get every star and not drop one, I almost did drop one. The camp will be happy, it’s been a while since they had a full meal.’
The celebrities were waiting with baited breath for her return and cheered her in. ‘Hold your horses, that was rough man, I was in a harness suspended over a pond so…….I got a perfect 10!' she gloated.
Earlier in the day Martina had revealed how Carly Zucker’s dark hair and eyes reminded her of her current ‘drop dead beautiful’ girlfriend.
The tennis legend also said she was still looking for that perfect mate and would wait and see if her current partner was ‘the one’.
‘She’s sweet and drop dead beautiful, she looks like Carly a little bit, brown eyes, dark hair, similar features.
'I was looking at Carly wondering who she reminds me of and then I realized it was my girlfriend!’
Martina opened up to Nicola after the glamour model asked if she had ever been married before.
‘No, I did have a boyfriend; I lost my virginity with a guy when I was about 17. He was a nice guy but it wasn’t quite there. Then when I was with the first woman about a year later, it was like ‘oh, I’m gay’.
'It was like coming home, it was clear, and that was my coming out and I knew then that my life wasn’t going to be as easy. It was going to be much more complicated but that’s what it is and I’ve never looked back.
‘Physically I could be with a man but emotionally I just have never fallen in love with a guy. You know when you get those butterflies? I just never had them with a guy.’
Nicola pressed her on what her family said when they realized that she was gay.
‘They didn’t know or didn’t ask until I was about 24, I wasn’t going to tell them but if they asked I wasn’t going to lie.
'My dad went crazy, it wasn’t happy for a while but we didn’t stop talking and he read some books on the subject and he realized that it wasn’t anything that I did or he did or anything like that and he was cool with it.
‘Mum wasn’t happy with some of my choices of partners but I think she just wanted me to be happy.’
Asked if the press made a big deal of it, Martina said the thing that annoyed her was the media referring to the home she shared with her partner of seven years as a love nest.
‘I had a relationship with a woman, we were practically married and then hey did a story on the house we lived in as Martina and Judy’s love nest. It’s not a love nest, it was a home.
'It drove me nuts. Regarding the fact that I’m gay, I’ve been out a long time, it’s not a big deal, it was then 25 years ago but it’s a lot easier now. ‘
