There were about 182,000 people that auditioned for the X-Factor this year.

Now if the judges saw every act for 5 minutes, like it seems on the show they would have spent just over 90 weeks without any sleep seeing people.

So how many of the people that audition get to see the judges?

someone at my school auditioned and she said that she had to wait in the pouring rain for 5 and a half hours and then some of the crew came out and said that about a quarter the people from london had to go home!

182,000 sent application forms, not even 100,000 of them will have got an audition. Then they send a load of auditionees home and treat them like sh*t so some will go. Then some see the producers, the freaks and the average ones get through. The really good ones are sent home. Also going through include sob stories.

The ones through see the judges (about 200) and about 100 go to bootcamp.

The auditions are quite long as well, they sing two songs and have a chat. Its about 15 mins-half an hour.

It isn't possible at all. The 90 weeks assumes they don't sleep or take any time off. Assuming a 40 hour week:

182,000 x 5 mins = 910,000 mins

910,000 mins / 60 mins = 15,166 hours

15,166 hours / 40 hours = 378 weeks

i was assuming that several singers and groups would be auditoned in batches of twenty. maybe less. the judges walk into a large room. each act is given twenty maybe thirty seconds to perform. then it is either yay or nay whether they get a private audition later on. its only guesswork from me. as im not too interested in the show at that early stage. that part is just for laughs. it is when the real talent like diana starts to emerge. thats when i get interested.

There is a producer audition before you see Simon etc, they decide if you're going to make good TV or not which at the end of the day is the production teams aim.

I know what you mean about the laughs, but it interesting that the way it is shown is completely different from the reality of the whole thing. They clearly filter people out, but even the the number of staff involved in the auditions must quite large to keep the time down.

It does make you wonder how many people with good voices they actually miss out on ever seeing the Judges, if as suggested they only see 200 people in total.

And what comes before the producer auditions? It would take a lot of producers to get the 378 weeks down to something sensible.

i thought it was more than 200 people. i had assumed they saw thousands of auditions. but i never ever tried to work out the total amount of hours. that is why i thought up that idea. i think the auditions make good entertainment value. a lot of people only watch that part of the show. but really i feel that quality wins over poor singing anyday. any person can bellow out a tune. even me. and that would be a painful moment for the judges.
