I've noticed this before, but sometimes when I click delete avatar and then upload a new one, it doesn't work. I've tried clicking delete, updating my profile, then adding a new one, and that normally does the trick, but when I tried to change it just now, a message came up saying "Passwords do not match" - what's going on? I haven't changed my password, my password still works, and after I deleted my old avatar, it returned! Ahh!

Bizarre, it now appears to have updated itself. Not really resolved though because it kept reappearing with my old avatar after I'd uploaded a new one - why does that happen?

Have you tried refreshing (F5) the page after uploading a new avatar? Make sure there is nothing in the change passwords boxes to avoid the password message - sometimes the browser can enter your password automatically.

Yeah I kept noticing it had my password automatically entered on the second attempt so I took it out, it worked after that but it took ages to refresh - but I didn't try F5, so I think that must have been it. Cheers!
