Default Does Rodrigo come from a poor family

The enormous amount of genuine distress caused by the damaged chair speaks a lot about his background and upbringing. This is not a criticism but just an observation.

He seems very middle class to me. A poor family in Brazil is worlds away from a poor family in Britain. Brazil is a very unequal society.

He DOES seem to have a lot of angst in his life. He really wants to be in a happy place. He says he loves England but there is a hint of loneliness in his way of relating.

There is no way a poor family in Brazil could afford to send this kid off to the UK... h ehas to be at least high middle class.

I wonder if he may have had some sort of emotional problems at some time.

I wouldn't think so, he just seems to be very emotional. It did seem rather absurd to get so upset over a chair that doesn't even belong to him though.

I think he's slight neurotic if you ask me. I couldn't believe what i was seeing and hearing stomping around from room to room, he was like a teacher telling of a pupil for writing on the desk

Rodrigo is one of the most genuine in the house... he might have issues but being fake is not one of them.

You guys don't get it. It had nothing to do with the chair. He was very upset about Charlie possibly being evicted. The chair is what set him off, but it wasn't the real reason he was upset. He even said so.

he only came here in 2007, to make a better life for himself. i suspect that his family was poor otherwise someone deliberately peeling paint off a chair wouldn't cause him so much distress. he knows what it's like to have to work hard for your possesions and when you don't have much, you respect what you do have. he must have come from a family that didn't have much otherwise he wouldn't have been so upset about it. no one gets that upset unless it has genuinely touched something deep within them. we don't think it's a big deal because ultimately, bb can just replace that chair with another one, but Rodrigo isn't used to things being so easily replaced like that.

that's what i think anyway, and i'm usually pretty good at working people out and why they do things.

No, I don't think he is poor

In Brazil you are either very rich or very poor and a child from a very poor family would probably not even get a full education nevermind get sent over to England for a degree. There are scholarships available but Rod is studying TV or something which is not something I think there would be scholarships for and I imagine it is not something that a family struggling for money would spend their money on as it is very expensive to do a degree abroad and the employment prospects with a degree in TV or whatever are not great.

i actually felt well sorry for him when everyone was laughing at him.

i laughed too, but if i was in the house i would've given him a cuddle and tried to calm him down.

Saved up his own money for what? His degree? It costs like Ł30,000 for an international student with very little government help available. I don't see how anyone could that young could save up that much money unless he got up very high in a drug dealing gang which seems unlikely.
