Big Brother heart-throb Preston sensationally confessed last night: "I lied to Davina - I DO love Chantelle." And he admitted he is now desperately torn between his longing for the Celebrity Big Brother winner - and girlfriend Camille Aznar, 25. Eight million viewers saw him come out of the BB house and insist nothing was going on between them.

Baring his soul to the Sunday Mirror, he revealed: "I'm sorry but I told a lie...I love Chantelle." He went on: "I love Camille and I want to do right by her. But now I also love Chantelle, and she's going to be in my life. It's messy, but the truth is I love them both."

Ordinary Boys singer Preston, 24, told BB host Davina McCall on Friday that he and Chantelle Houghton, 22, had no sexual connection. But he was fibbing to spare Camille's feelings, and yesterday he owned up. He admitted: "I fancied Chantelle straight away - who wouldn't? She's gorgeous, brilliant, funny...everything I look for in a girl. I'm not bothered whether she has blonde hair or fake nails. That's not why I like her. I like her because she's the way she is. That's why she's sexy."

Preston continued: "We had an almost instant connection of the kind I never thought I'd experience, she's like a soul mate. She was like my girlfriend in the house - but now we're back in the real world. I told a white lie to Davina because I was in a state of shock coming out of the house. I realised there'd be a lot of speculation and didn't want to hurt anyone. So when she asked what had gone on I just said we were friends."

Preston, real name Samuel Preston, shares a flat in Brighton, with French linguist Camille. She has been humiliated by speculation that Preston and Chantelle had become an item in the house. He and Camille shared a bedroom on Friday night but didn't have sex, despite not seeing each other for three weeks. Preston said Camille barely crossed his mind as he flirted in front of millions of TV viewers.

He said: "Life in the house was like a perfect bubble and Chantelle was my playmate, it was like, 'What shall we do today?' She kept me sane. We forgot about the cameras and just had a laugh and a flirt, I was naive and stupid because I didn't realise how it was going to look to those on the outside. We never thought about life beyond the house. I stupidly thought everyone would think, 'It's so great they've made such good friends'. When I had my arm around her or held her hand I thought nothing of it. It was a natural thing to do. It was dumb of me to think Camille wouldn't be hurt by some of the things we got up to." He hopes the two girls can strike up a rapport after he introduced them at the BB after-show party. I said to Camille, 'Do you want to meet Chantelle?' She said, 'OK',' and I led her across the room. They said, 'Hi', to each other. It was a bit awkward to say the least. I want them to be friends - I love both of them." Nervously, he added: "I think it went OK. But who knows? Time will tell."

Preston began worrying about the effect of his flirting as the end of the 23-day show drew near. He said: "I got a bit stressed about it, and told Chantelle, 'We have to go back to the real world'. I knew the bubble was going to burst and everyone was going to start to intrude."

When he walked out to cheers and talked to Davina he did all he could to protect both the women he loves. Brunette Camille and Essex blonde Chantelle seem to have little in common. But Preston insisted: "Camille and Chantelle have a lot in common. They have the same aura, it's really subtle. I liked Chantelle because I saw a lot of my girlfriend in her, and my sister and my mum. They're alike and I just want to look after them all. It doesn't matter to me whether a woman is blonde or brunette. I just like girls you can trust and someone who trusts you. She needs to be someone who is fun to be around, someone you respect. But she does have to be nice looking. Camille was giving me a few evils when I came out. After the camera stopped I took her aside and told her she'd nothing to worry about. She said, 'Fine', and was cool. We haven't had a proper chat but we will have to talk." But Preston said he'd turn to Chantelle if he and Camille split. "If I was single who knows what would happen? She's a brilliant mate, and I could never be bored with her, and that's what you look for in a wife. Her parents split up and so did mine, so we've been through the same stuff."

At 16 Preston became a father figure to sister Louie after their parents split in 1998. Their mum Miranda went to live in the US, then France, while dad Anthony worked away as a movie stunt man. Preston got Louie, two years younger, to school in Worthing, West Sussex, each morning - and even vetted her boyfriends.

Since his entry into the house The Ordinary Boys' album sales have rocketed TEN-FOLD. Preston and three pals in Brighton formed the band in 2002 taking their name from a single by Morrisey, former lead singer with The Smiths. Their first single Maybe Some Day was released in February 2004. Since then they've hit the big time with two gold albums and six top 40 hits. Their single, Boys Will Be Boys, was first released in May 2005 and is now at No 30 in the charts. Yesterday the band appeared on ITV Chart Show C UK and they're at the NME Awards at the London Astoria on February 16. Then they have a national tour in March, ending at Brixton Carling Academy.

Preston also joked that he, Chantelle and rapper Maggot were thinking of recording and releasing Chantelle's made-up song. "I loved it when she sang, I Want It Right Now. It's a good tune. I told her I'd play the instruments and Maggot would be on it too." Preston says he helped coach her to win over TV viewers. He said: "When she came out with Jade Goodyisms like, 'What's a gynaecologist?' I'd tell her, 'Chantelle, shush'. I said there were enough people known as that dizzy blonde from BB, and we didn't need another one." Preston said he was amazed when he came out of the house to find both his parents sitting there. His voice cracking with emotion, he said: "It's the first time I've seen them in a room together for ages."

I think that says it all really - he is in a difficult position I suppose its down to Camille now and how much she wants and loves her man but I think he has fallen big time for Chantelle and her for him but she want to protect him and is playing the we are only friends card cos she loves him and wants him to be happy - enough to give him the space and time to decide who he wants. According to Preston in the CBB reunion, he told Dermot he gave an interview with the Sunday Mirror and they printed "some other rubbish". I think we can safely assume the rubbish Preston refers is the nonsense about him loving Chantelle.

Personally I wouldn't use the Sunday Mirror for the cat litter tray. Its as bad if not worse than the Daily Star.

fate bought chantelle into that house for a reason and it was to meet preston. He loves her and she loves him and they should be together
