Default Advice Forum

After the rows involving threads on advice do you think that the forum should have a new 'Advice' area so people dont get annoyed with them in the 'General Chat' and 'Chat and Games' areas?

Not a terribly bad idea.

It could be a subforum in Serious Debates.

Sometimes advice isn't a serious debate though.

I think it should definitely get its own subforum

True, I just think that if it was to be a subforum Serious Debates seems most relevant.

I think that’s a good idea. With there being more members, a lot more going on and generally more advice threads, people may feel more comfortable about discussing issues if there was a separate sub-forum.

Maybe General Chat could be merged with Chat and Games and then that would free up some space for it's own subforum on the homepage.

They're quite different to me. I see it like this:

"General Chat" is for threads that are relevant and have a point but don't fit in any other forum.

"Chat and Games" is for extremely off-topic chat (such as what's seen in The Lounge) and for playing games in.

I really like this idea. But I'm unsure if it needs its own section... a subsection of a part of the site maybe better

Because of the popularity of this idea, will it be carried out James?

I will be perfectly honest here and say I think it is a bad idea. We are not here to give people advice about their personal lives in such a way as has been asked of members recently. I truly believe there are far more appropriate services out there for people who need, advice, guidance and support about serious issues affecting them in their personal lives.

Where do we draw the line at what kind of service we as a Big Brother forum offer to it's members.

I half agree with you. I think advice about a relationship or friends is acceptable but I think advice about suicide is something for childline etc. to deal with. I think if there was an advice forum created then there should be some limits.

Or, perhaps members who know more about alternative methods of help, numbers, organisations etc. can point them out to those seeking more major advice within the threads. Although it's not always difficult to find out who can help you, it can sometimes be easier to ask for help/advice to do with personal issues within a comfortable environment.

We need to remember the focus of the forum though. I dont know of any other big brother forum's that have advice sections for personal issues!

I am not sure what Mark or James will decide but I am simply opposed to the whole idea of it.

Like Matthew, I do half agree with you as well. Especially because we do have the 'General Chat' and 'Chat and Games' sections, and the odd threads aren't always too much of a problem. It'd be interesting to see what Mark or James decide.
