What do you mean by take us for fools exactly?
As in, they put ridiculous adverts on with half naked girls, or random celebrities...and expect us to buy whatever it is they're advertising? If so, then I do think they take us for fools. The only way to productively advertise something, is to show everyone exactly what it's about in the most original way possible, whilst showing the public WHY that particular thing will benefit their lives. Everything else is completely irrelevant. Although some advertisers use the "unique" idea to create a compeltely surreal/random advert that's either so unusual/funny that we all remember it, so they hope we'll all buy it. Fact of the matter is, remembering something doesn't make you want it or need it. |

But when you do need said product you are more likely to buy the one you remember. So random ads do have their place.

Adverts are seldom random, that would be a waste of money. Adverts are targeted.
If you ever watch a mixture of day time television, children's programmes and peak time viewing, note what adverts are put on in those slots. They try and target adverts to the people they believe are watching tohose programmes at certain times, like adverts for funeral plans on day time television, sugary cereal mand drinks on children's television and adverts for cars during motoring programmes. The idea is the recepable audience are so primed, then they will be taken in hook line and sinker. In the 1980's, there were a series of adverts, adsvertising Youth Opportunities programmes and other unemployment nitiatives, how ever they were put on at times when it was known that Conservative voters might be watching, rather than the unemployed people they were allegedly targeted at. Although this was technically government advertising, the claim was made that this was a manipulation of said advertising for party political advantage. So yes, they do take us for fools, because advertisers get cynical, which is what they need to be to push a product for their client. |

Obviously when I said random, I meant adverts that seemingly have nothing to do with the product they are selling. The jellyfish ad for 3 mobile is a prime example.
It mentions nothing about the product, apart from the fact that they "like to share" Share what? They don't tell us. But people talked about it, so, job done. |

Yes and also they are fools for lashing money at our TV stations so most people can ignor what they advertise.
