Default hope for BB:CH and BB9

i think that the bb bosses are slowly bringing BB back to life. BB:Ch is realy CBB but with a diffrent format to to the show. If BB:CH works maby they can make BB9 work as well if they pick some strong Hms to keep the show alive (and dont come out with 'i want normal hms because we will never get normal hms witch is a good thing because they will do exrterame things to get us hooked). who agrees

Well BB:CH has got my hopes up because they seem to be trying out new formats. And that's the thing people don't seem to realise, it's not just the housemates that need to change it's the actual format which has now become stale. It needs reinventing.

If it is a success, they should scrap the main series and have Celebrity Hijack running throughout the summer on Channel 4 with a few tweaks like housemates don't necessarily have to be talented and celebrities getting a week rather than a day. Perhaps that could tie in with BBBM guest hosts if they continue to do that?

But it will never happen ... but I am looking forward to it.

Simple doesn't work. They tried that with BB4 and look what happened. They tried it with BB8, although put a spin on it with the female twist. That flopped as well, with the half way house coming in to try and save it.

the reaosn BB4 didnt work was cause the characters were rubbish. Good housemates and less twists, maybe like one twist for the whole thing would be better

Couldn't agree with you more Billy. Too many twists can ruin a series (look at BB7 and BB8). BB5 had the right balance between keeping it simple and making it new and fresh. All it needs is one cleverly implemented twist (like the BB bedsit was).

BB7 is regarded as one of the better series after BB3 and BB5, so that shows that when they do twists properly, they can work, and it wasn't a mess as you said.

Twists need to have an impact on the whole series, not just 3 or 4 days.

The twists ruined BB7, in my opinion.

BB7 had too many twists which is why it wasn't so good. In BB5 the twists were minimal, and a new one wasn't instigated every 3 days. They put in too many housemates in BB7 as well, they had more than 20 overall and that's way too much, and most of the housemates were lame. I'd rather have a cast of about 10 people with a wide range of personalities than more than 20 housemates if most of them are not very good. And the actual twists used in BB7 were also crap and flopped. The HND twist was found out by all the housemates and they knew there were people next door. BB8 was even worse.

I think they need to keep it simple with good housemates and the odd twist, but not too many. And the twists need to be new and fresh, a lot of the BB7 and 8 twists were remakes of twists from past series. Maybe adjusting the format would be a good idea as well, as Redmond said, as long as it's not overly complicated and ridiculous.

We need decent tasks as well, the weekly tasks have not been great for the last couple of years.

Well I still stand against what I said and that is that BB7 is thought as one of the better series, and was voted as second best after BB5 on an official poll for best series on Digital Spy.

BB7 didn't reuse twists from BB6 or previous series, the only similar element was "secret" housemates. BB8 reused twists from BB3 and BB7 and was too reliant on twists.

BB7 wasn't my favourite series but is a favourite series of fans, but in effect it did kill off Big Brother until they can change the format.

I think BB5 and BB6 were the best when it came to the balance of twists and good characters, the only difference being BB5 had likeable characters but BB6 didn't although arguably had some of the best housemates ever seen in Big Brother UK.

This topic is about do you think BB:CH and BB9 can live to tell another day its not about twists or bb7.
who else think the show can survive if they changed the format. people keep saying they like the format but to be true i dont care what people say. the format is stale like Redmond said. change the format more extreame charactors and it will work. we cant have normal people any more becuse nothing controversail will happen and people will say 'i have already seen this in past series'!

I'd like to see a full series twist like they do in BBUSA, like The Ex Factor, Summer of Secrets, Project DNA etc.

The one that would work best would be the Summer of Secrets twist, where each housemate enters the house with a partner. So say there are 14 housemates, all of them are pairs, but they can't let the others know this and they all think that they are the only pair in the house. If the pair of housemates make it to the last two then the runner up receives Ł250,000 and the winner receives Ł500,000 (in BBUSA they won Ł1 Million, but I think that is too much). But if a pair doesn't make it until the last two then the winner just receives the normal prize fund. This would make the game much more competitive and create more tension and drama. (In BBUSA the pairs actually knew each other in real life, but I think it would be better if the pairs were randomly selected before the housemates entered the house, so they are all still strangers but pairs of two are working together).

But also have other secrets within the house, like in BBUSA they had a hidden bedroom and the housemates were given clues to find it. There where three locked safes in the house and over the course of the series more clues were given for the combination to get into the safes. Stuff like that just add an extra layer to the series and make it more fun.

I'm sure BBUK could put a unique twist on the Summer of Secrets idea. Also with the talk from the auditions of the producers seemingly targetting couples and siblings and friends, maybe the 'pair of housemates' twist is something they are considering.

BBUSA haven't done the evil theme yet, I'd like them too though.

BBUK has copied quite a lot from BBUSA actually, but we always put our own spin on it, although sometimes not as good.

BBUSA was the first Big Brother to put twins in the house.
BBUSA was the first Big Brother to create the BB Slop punishment.
BBUSA was the first Big Brother to bring an evicted housemate back.
BBUSA was the first Big Brother to do the eating disgusting food tasks. (like Glyns milkshake etc)

There's other stuff as well the same but I can't remember right now.

Well the theme of BB7 was TWISTED, so what were you guys expecting?

But seriously, BB7 had the best set of housemates on a launch night out of any series.

then they ruined it with twist after twist. All the original, intersting housemates were evicted too early.

Not to turn this into another BB5 vs BB7 thread, but BB5 had the best line-up of housemates on launch night and they delivered continually throughout the series.
