Shell has been called to the floor to defend herself, accused by Jay of being a know-it-all.
The moody Scot used an observation of Ahmed's about Shell's debating tactics, to slip in a dig about her annoying habit of being right all the time. But the young academic was ready to stretch her argumentative muscles and counter his claim. Ahmed, sitting next to Jay, noted that the bubbly blonde lulls people into a false sense of security. "When we are having an argument, she says, 'you are right... I agree with you' but then at the end - BAM!" shouted the Somali, clapping his hands together and falling about in hysterics. "She's never wrong, is she?" remarked Jay, evoking a vehement "I so am!" from the sheep loving student. "Always at the end of the argument, so she can get the last word," continued Jay, directing his comments to Ahmed who was still rolling around in amusement. Explaining she simply loved a good discussion, Shell insisted she was totally receptive to being told she's too knowing - "Then you can debate that as well," she chirped. When Jay said she should perhaps back down occasionally, she retorted, "That's not what academic debate is about." "I've been taught to question absolutely everything. Jay has crabbiness... "[I'm] used to saying 'I'll have my view and you have yours," she continued, "and I'll stick to it until you prove or persuade me otherwise." Then things started to get personal. "I take your crabbiness in good humour, and you take my know-it-all in good humour," shell offered the Scot. "You jibe me Jason, but I think I'm very fair about things," she argued. Jay was clearly being won over. "I'm saying it lightheartedly," he assured her. Affirming that she enjoyed his company, and didn't like to see him grumpy and isolated, she said, "We don't always see eye to eye... but I would rather have an argument with you and then resolve it, than be untruthful." A little cryptically, she added, "You prize respect and so do I. I think you'll see... when you come out... I've never disrespected you." Finishing on a plus note, Ahmed once again creased over about her habit of slamming opponents at the last hurdle. "It's always lighthearted with me," she smiled, "and it keeps me sane in here, having a good 'ole debate and argument." Awfully nice to win too, wouldnt you say sweetie? Official Site |
