This is something I have a pretty strong opinion on. I have quite a number of close friends online who have openly said, Im bi/gay, and I'm absolutly fine with it - it dosn't bother me if someone is straight / bi / gay, they're still a good person.
But when I get to school, one of my mates especially thinks its really weird that someone is bi, not so much that they're gay, but if someone is bi she bursts into laughter and everything :\ and Im just there like wtf? Its up to them what they want to be. Today in english for instance, there was a rumor going around that a lad in our year had told someone he was bi.. and a good 25 people, out the class of 30, were omg'ing and saying some pretty nasty stuff about this one lad being/or supposidly being bi. I gave my friend I mentioned earlier right evils xD It needed to be done.. she knows I have a strong opinion on people taking the mick. She did quieten down after I looked over at her though.. but she hasn't spoken to me since then, think about it xD Ah well, it had to be done.. Am I right here? Should I be standing my ground this much? What are your views? |

Yeah Nicky!!! I hate it sooooooo much when people are like that! The thing is that when it comes down to it they actually don't normally have that much of a problem with it. My friends used to be a bit like that until one day i just gritted my teeth and told them I was bi... They all took it sooo well and I was incredibly gratefull! In fact now they've all forgotten and they all get suprised when they remember, like it would change who I am.
Thumbs up Nicky

You're totally right, stand your ground.
I think it's extremely brave of you, especially if you're in the minority to stand up with your view. As for my view - I'm obvously fine with anything, especially since I'm gay myself. I'd stand my ground and argue what I can, all I can, because it's a topic close to me. |

I'm bisexual (A proper bisexual, not a Pete Wentz bisexual) and frankly I think bisexuality has turned into a bit of a joke with the amount of gay people saying they're bi for self comfort and how bi has become more of a fashion statement than a sexuality.
I adore you for standing up for him but frankly the fact that they laugh and joke about it doesn't suprise me because sadly thats what bisexuality has become, a joke. =\ |

People at school just want a reason to rip people. They are actually pathetic and often scared of voicing their own opinions so go with the crowd. School is often a bad place to come out about your sexuality as soooo many judge on the unknown and people often get upset and bullied.
I am fine about people being who or what they want to be. My brother is kinda in between just now and not knowing what or who he is as a person and no matter the outcome I will still love him as my brother. Some people just need to grow up and realise its not a big tabboo anymore. |

Well done Nicky! That was really brave of you.
I've never really come across anyone my age who is against anyone being gay/bi,which is quite fortunate. |

It will pass over, people were like that when I was at school but at college noone really give a sh*t about who was gay and who wasn't. Its something people grow out of when they realise its not as omg as they think ...

I get called Gay all the time by people in my school. (I am straight btw). And if someone was to be bi they would completley bully them.
Someone in my class called someone Gay, and someone said yeah in the happy way (you kn Gay means happy) and he said in the sad way (I was completley shocked because gay people are happy) and I said to him "What do you mean in the sad way." And he said "Becuase he is gay." (Which this person is not gay). And then I said "How is it sad if someone is gay." Then he said "Because it is." Then I was completly shocked. Then I just dropped it. How is it sad if you are gay? Darenn? DamonJ? Any other ones? Are you sad? Probably not. |

Listening to Katy Perry's number one really says a lot about the subject of bisexuality.. a female discovering the magnificence of kissing another female and liking it. The novelty factor which I guess has made that single what it is... very sucessful.. But nevermind the song (as that is all it is really) The feelings you may have towards your same sex is so wrong but yet so right to yourself.. and others like yourself. The feelings you may have towards the opposite sex is so right but simply not enough for one so bisexual. There is no point in trying to make those who find it disgusting or unnatural change the way they feel... it is too much of a conundrum. |

I agree, bisexual has been made a joke. And even my mum chips in with it and it shocks me... she goes "You cant like both" and im like... "Yes mum you really can, its just as common as being gay" but oh well.
I dont think its fair to label people please, I mean some people love being gay and flaunt it, but people dont go round flaunting that they are straight. I mean myself in the past have fancied guys and flirted with them but I dont class myself as bisexual or gay. I dont even like being called straight, I just like being me. Why does everything in the world need to be labelled... I will fall in love with who I fall in love with. There are tonnes of straight people who have fallen in love with the same gender. It just happens, I dont think you can put anyone into a category unless you are very stubborn in your ways. People can float between them, even bisexual people float. They have days where guys are disgusting and they have days where girls are disgusting. |

Go you for standing your ground and not just going along with the majority and saying nasty stuff like most do
You will find as you get older and leave school, you don't see that view much instead people are more mature and accepting. If people are gay, bi or straight they can be and people should respect that. I hate small minded people who just say nasty stuff about someone because of their sexuality without no reason. |

This is an issue where it's not so much the topic itself that's the problem, but the fact that schoolkids will be schoolkids. It's no big deal in the real world, what with "live and let live" and all that. Theoretically, that mindset should work - but then you get ignorant, closed-minded people anywhere unfortunately.
However, you're definitely in the right. There's nothing wrong with saying you're bi at all, and the person should either be supported or left alone (in an ideal world). Instead, teenagers (particularly at school when there's peer pressure/impressing friends etc. involved) just pick on every little thing and can really upset people. The only advice I can give people in those situations is to rise above it/just try to get on with things... as well as talking to people who remain loyal, since they're the only ones who are worth bothering with. |

Thanks guys, I was starting to wonder if I was the one in the wrong earlier, being like the only one in the class actually doing anything.
It will probably come up tomorrow again, as its probably the biggest news this year for some people, so I will be standing my ground again and sticking up for anyone on this one x |
