Three gay Skins characters have been voted among the most popular from the show.
In a poll by LastBroadcast to find fans' favourites, three out of the top five were gay. Lesbian twin Emily, portrayed by Kathryn Prescott, topped the poll, with the in-denial Naomi (Lily Loveless) close behind in third place. The final gay character to make the top five was Mitch Hewer's Maxxie, who left the show in 2008 when the cast was axed to make way for the newcomers. Completing the most popular characters were Chris (Joe Dempsie) at number two, and Hannah Murray's Cassie, who took fifth place. <33

People just fancy the arse off Maxxie. As a character he was nothing special. There is plenty of deeper characters on the show.

Yeah, I agree. He was never really that prominant anyway, but maybe that's what some people liked about him. They should have explored his sexuality more like they have with Emily/Naomi rather than him just being there, gay....

The idea that they never explored his sexuality is what I loved. Being gay isn't a problem that needs to be dealt with or looked into everytime it appears in a programme like 'Skins'. He was gay, and that was that. I do think the storyline works well for Naomi/Emily though, because they are younger and because of Emily and Katie's relationship.

tbh JJ, Cook and Freddie are 3 of the worst characters ever. JJ is pointless, Cook is annoying and Freddie is boring. G1 > G2 everytime.

New generation> Old generation.
JJ is like a less superficial Sid, Cook is a trainwreck who will eventually break down and do a Cassie, and Freddie ... okay, I'll give you Freddie. But Tony was a po faced, two dimensional git too. And the twins. The twins ![]() |

I'm glad. I believe that shows like Skins will help to portray diverse cultures, especially sexuality, and with any luck may make 'homophobic' people think differently.
Although I agree with you, Arneldo, as far as most teenage straight males are concerned, the whole lesbian relationship is just great for them as they can be sexually aroused by it, whereas if they had gone deeper into Maxxie's sexuality, some positive views may have come from it. |
